YABU. I don't have shares in them but am evangelical. Robi shmobi, it never worked for us (9 years of nitty hell.) NG worked in two weeks.

Chulita · 05/02/2012 20:05

yabu

Wish I had been wise enough to invest in nitty gritty shares.

A unique product that is 100x more effective than anything else on offer.

Kytti · 05/02/2012 20:10

OMG! I was only reading about that today after being told about them by a Mum at school. Must check if she's on Mumsnet! lol

I'll rush out and buy one then! :)

ddubsgirl · 05/02/2012 20:10

nitty gritty is only one i can use without ripping my hair out!

MrsHeffley · 05/02/2012 20:30

I'm not I've been using said comb for 2 months on dd every other day. She still has nits and hollers every time.

Highly over rated imvho.

Hedrin is better-but expensive.

RandomMess · 05/02/2012 20:32

MrsHeffley, do you get the comb right to the roots using the base of the prongs.

I just don't understand how it doesn't work for you???

We get loads of eggs out very very easily? I put cheap conditioner onto dry hair and then just comb through?

deemented · 05/02/2012 20:35

MrsHeffley - Hedrin spray gel is on offer in Asda ATM - brilliant stuff!

MrsHeffley · 05/02/2012 20:36

Yep,believe you me we're thorough it's just impossible to get every nit/egg out from thick, long hair.It only takes one missed egg/nit and it starts all over again.

I'm not alone in RL,tis wierd it only seems to be on MN that said comb works miracles.Unless that is we have the super race of nits down here.

RandomMess · 05/02/2012 20:38

Well we've got long thick hair x 4 and when infested I just comb every 2-3 days and by the 4th combing they're gone.

I use loads of conditioner tbf and wipe the comb on kitchen roll in between.

MrsHeffley · 05/02/2012 20:39

So do we.

ragged · 05/02/2012 20:52

I don't prefer the NG comb either.
Basic metal ones from Boots work better for us.
Hmmm... wonder if I should flog it on Ebay? Grin

RandomMess · 05/02/2012 20:53

It's just bizarre Confused we should have a delousing competition sponsored by NG!

I tried the plain metal ones and they only got out the mature lice and no eggs or hatchlings.

MirandaGoshawk · 05/02/2012 20:57

'Tis essential to wipe with bog roll tissue between each 'stroke'. Smile

I hate my Nitty Gritty comb & so do my dds by all accounts. I use it routinely, but apart from hair, nothing comes off the girls heads (and yes, I am using it correctly) I don't understand the hype!

cloudpuff · 06/02/2012 10:23

Another one who does not like the nitty gritty comb. It got sod all out, I prefer good natural light and my long fingernails to pull the blighters out. Hedrin Once or whatever its called workied well too.

sunshineandbooks · 06/02/2012 10:44

I love it. It has never failed to eradicate an infestation in this house. I even managed to do my friend's DD who had waist-length, really thick hair (first combing did take about 2 hours though). I find that a really thorough initial combing, followed by a repeat combing every 3rd day for the next 2 weeks has always worked without fail.

There is definitely a technique to it though. You have to be very methodical and divide the hair into sections, making sure that the sections you've combed don't cross over onto the bits you've still got to do - which can be very tricky and time-consuming with long hair. Curly, coarse hair must also be a nightmare.

Maybe a double-pronged attack - hedrin and nitty gritty?

MateyMooo · 06/02/2012 10:47

we suffered with constant nits for about 3 years.. every time dd went to school she picked up another dose.

I hate the idea of bathing my childs head in chemicals because some other mother cant be bothered to deal with thier problem

we now have a strict sunday night routine... Bath, movie and NG.

we are now coming up to the 6th month clear - occasionally we find one or two- but these are VISITORS rather than an infestation.

I wish i had shares in NG.

when i complained to the school, they gave me a cheap nasty comb that ripped my dds hair and scalp.

the only thing i dont like about NG is that dd seems to get a lot of split ends. more so than when we werent using it.

Kytti · 06/02/2012 11:25

Bought one this morning! Will be giving it a go tonight. :)
