To think dogs should be on a lead at a sledging hill?

Prepared that I might be BU.

The field is probably privately owned. It is The Sledging
Hill in the village. Loads of kids there today.

About 3 dogs, big bouncy ones, off leads chasing sledges, pissing in the snow where kids sledging, and crapping too (generally out of the way, but didn't see it picked up).

My dd is petrified of dogs, and stood about 5 minutes complaining loudly how they should be on a lead. Which was ignored by the owners.

We had to leave.

I'm afraid humans' sledging rights do trump dogs' walking rights

Why?

Because the humans walking their dogs gave up their rights when they acquired a savage, snarling, baby eating monster. Apparantly.

Well I'm alright as my nobody notices my dog as he's so little he becomes a snow-mole burrowing under the snow :o

TuftyFinch · 05/02/2012 21:47

Beer, there's a dog behind you!

Not pulled by deer. It's for pulling dead deer Shock

I didn't know at the time.

It belongs to our new neighbours. It's a big green tub with a sloped front. You can get a few kids in it. Or me and DC which was great fun. It went really fast. Almost fulfilled by fantasy of competing in the winter Olympics in the bob sleigh event.

After a while new neighbour said 'I bet you don't know what that's really for.'
Then told me.

I don't think he pulls deer in it. Although I have heard more gun shots from the woods since they moved in.

Sorry ... it's all about me and my great day. Back to original point (sort of), it has high sides so protected from dogs.

Although there weren't any dogs on our sledging hill. Nor many people. We left our dog in the house aslepp as she's a timy puppy and would have disappeared in the snow.

Kladdkaka · 05/02/2012 21:48

The other one takes one look at the cold, wet stuff beyond the front door and point blank refuses to leave the house.

numbertaker · 05/02/2012 21:50

Dogs, who would have them. (I have one) The snow is messed up with yellow and brown.

I hate the way people treat thier dogs like people, some dog comes running up to your kid and they shout 'he wont hurt you' yeah right, if it bit my child they would say 'hes never done that before'.

I keep my dog ON a lead. I pick up its poo. I do not let it approach other peoples children. I do not let it approach other peoples dogs.

In China they eat dogs. In England we treat them better than old people.

My dog doesn't get meals on wheels. He'd like to.

TuftyFinch · 05/02/2012 21:51

I was wearing no helmet.

Had a text from my dad before we went out sledging 'snow can be lethal'.

Thanks dad.

TuftyFinch · 05/02/2012 21:53

Now, my dog does get meals on wheels.

What's that about?

numbertaker · 05/02/2012 21:55

Can anyone tell me WHY they would allow thier dog to live and have to go round in one of those harness things on wheels, when they have lost thier back legs. Why would you do that to a dog. Is it more because the owner can not let go of the pet.

Beer come and share our sledge field and (not mine) deer sledge. No people. No parking charges. We can be Olympians together. We could weave a new fence at the bottom because according to my dad the barbed wire one could have chopped all our heads off.

What's wrong with a dog with wheels for legs?

ILoveGreggsSausageRolls · 05/02/2012 22:12

Hold on, when did this stop being a free country??

I have been reasonable, demonstrated I am considerate around others yet I am not given this back because you want to take your dog fearing children out in the snow.

If its that bad find somewhere else to take your children. You have more choice.

Kladdaka so would mine Smile

Kladdkaka · 05/02/2012 22:13

Barbed wire just adds to the excitement. Our sledging hill was like that. Bit scary when sledging on a tea-tray which turns you around so you're going backwards. Timing becomes a matter of life or death :o

muffinino82 · 05/02/2012 22:18

Most commonly used by dog walkers, off lead I guess unless there are livestock around. it is not play area, I reckon only used by kids when it snows.

there's your answer.

This.

Why should 'sledging rights' take precedent? If my animals are in a field they have permission to be in, should I keep them in because others have decided it's their go? Nope, I don't think so. Our yard has a few fields that are perfect for sledging, doen't mean anyone can rock up and decide their PFB has the right to career all over it.

It was on a pubic right of way - technically, though I guess that neither kids nor dogs should actually be on the field itself.

Y(and everyone else)ABVU to use somebody's field without permission and possibly ruin it. Right of way, fair enough ovs, but the rest of the field? I can't see anywhere where you say you know who owns it, so why on Earth are you in it?

Well, you're all obviously quite posh; I had a black bin liner as a sled dogs getting in the way and tipping you over only added to the fun/You've Been Framed opportunities, I dreamed of a proper sled. Good times.

saintlyjimjams · 05/02/2012 22:25

Were they chasing their own sledges? Or random sledges.

if they were chasing owner's sledges and friend's fair enough, if random then best on a lead.

My dog is off lead away from traffic providing he's not bothering anyone else. You might see him knock over children but they would be mine.

Actually he did knock over a toddler once on a totally empty beach but he had been chasing a ball into the sea and out in a straight line for half an hour, he didn't even see the toddler was just looking at his ball. The toddler ran into him! (Luckily the mother saw it happen and agreed).

Ds2 used to be terrified of dogs (mainly because he used to run every time he saw one so he'd have ever dog in the land chasing him, despite me screaming stand still at him). But with some access to friendly dogs and then a bonkers one of his own he got over it.

Popbiscuit · 05/02/2012 22:26

My Dad used to like amusing us with stories of black bin liner sledging. I always thought he was lying Confused

Bin liners are the best. You have no control and go like a rocket.

TuftyFinch · 05/02/2012 22:31

Beer, mud is mud is mud. There is no shame in mud. I am generally quite muddy.
Bags sit at the front though. When I say lean, lean.

Muffin. This is the first year in my life that I have a sledge to call my own (and these were borrowed from my nice friend). We never had them as children. I longed for one of those wooden ones. Apart from the deer sledge today I also went on a proper wooden one from other neighbour. I was so excited. Honestly. It was every bit as good as I imagined.
