To ask if you've ever had Botox..and whether I should get some injected into my wrinkly old mug?

I'm nearly 42 and, while stunningly beautiful and nigh on perfect, have a few deep lines in my forehead from scowling at unreasonable people for the last 30 years.

A very rude friend of mine (gay man, image conscious and horribly honest) keeps urging me to have a few jabs of poison in my face as 'your forehead is letting you down'.

The problem is that people that have had it look like...well like they've had Botox. Smoother skinned but a bit odd and surgeried.

Any of you had it? Would I have to have it forever more?

I'm leaning on the side of 'no way', because I'm vain but not that vain and I'm afraid of damaging nerves etc.

Whaddya reckon?

I think your friend should mind his own business Grin

troisgarcons · 04/02/2012 08:08

Saw a lady I know @ parents evening this week - not seen her for a couple of years - arrrgh! She looked like she'd been zapped and frozen in time. I reckon it was botox.Lady at work also has it - again, she looks waxy and like a shop manequin

CailinDana · 04/02/2012 08:11

I haven't had it, as I am even more perfect that yow, but I would say no no no no no no no. It looks absolutely ridiculous. You don't see someone with botox and think "Oh that woman looks lovely and youthful" you think "what's wrong with her forehead, why do her expressions look so odd?" Talking to someone who's had botox is incredibly offputting, especially when it's a relatively recent treatment. Their face just doesn't look normal anymore.

Proudnscary · 04/02/2012 08:16

Cailin - impossible to be more gorgeous than me, sorry.

Yes exactly - everyone just looks a bit odd and waxen.

BUT one friend of mine did have it done (just 2 or 3 pricks - ooer missus - so very minimal) and did actually look better.

Maybe it's about just having a wee bit and not trying to achieve total baby's bottom-ness.

I just wouldn't. It's reminiscent of women who used arsenic to keep themselves pale or corsets that wouldn't let them breathe properly.

CailinDana · 04/02/2012 08:20

Perhaps proud. I suppose the danger is, you start off with a little bit, it looks quite good, then you think "I'll just go for a bit more," the surgeon thinks "Cha-ching!" and bam you look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=pete+burns&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1680&bih=959&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=y_fwpJzBN9WRRM:&imgrefurl=news.softpedia.com/newsImage/Deformed-Pete-Burns-Talks-Plastic-Surgery-in-TV-Special-2.jpg/&docid=E-pyUh9fFaNqRM&imgurl=i1-news.softpedia-static.com/images/news2/Deformed-Pete-Burns-Talks-Plastic-Surgery-in-TV-Special-2.jpg&w=680&h=432&ei=KuosT7LYDqGg0QWYmZitCA&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=611&sig=118185847825550094861&page=1&tbnh=125&tbnw=167&start=0&ndsp=52&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0&tx=106&ty=90" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

Can't get a fringe - have a short forehead and square face (making myself sound lovely aren't I?). Tried before, looked like Russian shot putter.

you do realise botox is a derivative of botulism son;t you?

That should be enough to sway the average normal person away from it!

Proudnscary · 04/02/2012 08:22

Fuck me Cailin - that literally made me jump out me slippers!

Trois, yes I know it is poison. That's one of the many reasons I'm holding off.

I have a good friend who has Botox every 4 months. She looks great, very smooth skin, flawless you could say. She is aleays very tanned, too, so she looks very well and golden, even in winter. If you saw her, you would say she looks like a really good looking 42 year old. Maybe 45 at the outside. But really well, pretty, clear skin.

She is 32.

Proudnscary · 04/02/2012 08:35

Grey - ha!

Personally, I don't think it is that bad to get a tiny bit of botox in your forehead. I know people who have had it for migraine and it did help, with no adverse side effects.

Your forehead isn't that bad of a place to have it I don't think, but I would be afraid to get it anywhere else on my face.

Your friend is rather bold to suggest you need it, there are other less drastic options available I hear.
Have you heard of www.derma-rollers.com/26/scientia-derma-roller-before-and-after-pictures ?

TimeWasting · 04/02/2012 08:42

I'd never go for injections or surgery, but a good exfoliating facial type thing, maybe laser treatment on discoloration/scars I wouldn't be averse to.

Teeth are the main thing though, getting teeth and hair done always makes the most difference on those makeover shows.

Proudnscary · 04/02/2012 09:04

My gnashers are okay - but yes maybe I could explore some other non invasive options. If I can be arsed!

OP posts:
Nagoo · 04/02/2012 09:17

I wouldn't do it.

I don't like the look of it.

I think people who start with botox, and have too much money can quicly lose perspective like Caliin said :)

catgirl1976 · 04/02/2012 09:25

Hmmm

my DSis (33) had it done last month. You can't really tell tbh, other than she now spends her whole time going "look, I can't frown!" whilst attempting to screw her fizzog up at me.

She doesn't look botoxy (but in my view didnt need it anyway) but this is only round one so who knows. FWIW, she had it done at Kendals in Manchester and I believe they have an offer on.

I have been tempted myself but DH gives me a Hmm look, plus I think my boobs may be round my knees when I have finished BF so that might be more of an issue.

I have thought about it but I tend to think I wouldnt. I bet you look great as you are

bucketbetty · 04/02/2012 09:27

I've had it once and thought it was a bit of a waste of money, but then I have a fringe so really it was! I know quite a few people who have it, some look amazing, others have gone too far. I think if you're sensible and have just those annoying lines done and not every single line in your face done, then it can be very effective. I had a horrible headache afterwards but that doesn't happen to everyone. I don't think there's a thing wrong with it unless you go overboard. It really isn't noticeable if you have a little. I can however understand people who go overboard. I don't think it makes people look younger but I do think it can look natural and make you feel less self conscious.

thestringcheesemassacre · 04/02/2012 09:29

I really want to get my 11's done. I don't have a wrinkly forehead just a big divet in the middle of the brows. sigh.
Mate has botox all the time and she looks fab.

LAlady · 04/02/2012 09:52

No I haven't. But you'll find a fringe just as effective Grin

LAlady · 04/02/2012 09:54

Ps. Agree with the teeth comments. Had invisalign braces 6 years ago - best thing I ever did.

MidnightWorry · 04/02/2012 10:12

i am 26 (0nly just) and I have frown marks on my forehead but i come from a family with oily skins and lines!

you cant trick yourself hun

littlemissnormal · 04/02/2012 10:26

I had a free trial at a doctors clinic and the lady doing it tried convincing me that I needed loads across my face (I was 29). I stood my ground and just had 3 little injections in the centre of my forehead and it looked fab. Rather than looking frozen it just made me look refreshed and awake.
Only problem was it made me pass out and I had to be carried out of the room and laid on a couch until I came round!
I think if you don't go OTT then it can be great.

Proudnscary · 04/02/2012 11:55

LAlady - see my comment about Russian shot putter up the thread!

Catgirl - ta love, if you saw me now with yesterday's make up all over my wrinkly face, still in my grubby dressing gown, 'lovely' is probably not the word you'd choose to describe me! Howevs, I don't look bad for an old bird Wink

Its the slippery slopeness of it that puts me off, but I have been tempted many times. It's like dying your grey roots, why would you ever let it go back to how it was before? So lots of ££ and commitment and worrying its all slipping

Also I think its easy to start on fillers etc and they really CAN cock your face up
