To ask if you've ever had Botox..and whether I should get some injected into my wrinkly old mug?

I'm nearly 42 and, while stunningly beautiful and nigh on perfect, have a few deep lines in my forehead from scowling at unreasonable people for the last 30 years.

A very rude friend of mine (gay man, image conscious and horribly honest) keeps urging me to have a few jabs of poison in my face as 'your forehead is letting you down'.

The problem is that people that have had it look like...well like they've had Botox. Smoother skinned but a bit odd and surgeried.

Any of you had it? Would I have to have it forever more?

I'm leaning on the side of 'no way', because I'm vain but not that vain and I'm afraid of damaging nerves etc.

Whaddya reckon?

I have a naturally lined forehead and the frown lines are part of my expressive face. Id never get those done, but would love to have it under and around my eyes and my laughter lines around my lips.

TooEasilyTempted · 04/02/2012 12:25

I'll definitely be getting Botox for my 40th. I'll be getting my tits lifted back to where they're supposed to be, too.

GlitterySkulls · 04/02/2012 12:26

i've had botox in my armpits for hyperhydrosis, and it's PAINFUL.

never would i have it in my face.

apart from the pain factor, it's poison- i'd be too scared.

WorraLiberty · 04/02/2012 12:33

I literally couldn't talk if I couldn't move my eyebrows

I have no idea why, but I move them all the time when I talk? Shock

I had to laugh at the last Celeb Big Brother. A huge row erupted in the house which involved crying, shouting and laughing.

Yet not one eyebrow moved Grin

DodieSmith · 04/02/2012 12:36

It looks fine so long as you only do scowling lines and not the whole shebang.

grumpypants · 04/02/2012 12:40

I had it done and it is amazing. had it done by proper doctor, not at a nail clinic/ dentist etc and its fab. Still got my creases, just not the huge 11s in my brows, and a lot less crinkle round my eyes. Would not go near fillers, and not been tempted into anything else.

Proudnscary · 04/02/2012 13:07

Grumpypants - do you look less grumpy? Wink

No I would never have fillers either.

Yes the slippery slopeness is definitely a worry. I mean if it looks great am I going to be injecting botulism into my face for the next 20 years? And at a cost of about...fuck me, about £15/20,000 I suppose??

My friend has it done, and it has made her look less tired imo. But she has a lot of sun damage to her face.

I have botox in my arm though Grin

SootySweepandSue · 04/02/2012 13:12

It looks really bad when you've just had it done but much better after a few weeks. Trouble is in 4 months you need to have it done again, do it's an ongoing financial drain. Depends how bad your lines are I suppose...

abedelia · 04/02/2012 14:26

Had it done twice last year to get rid of lines across my forehead... Very minimal amount. Last jab was last June but though it has worn off, it seems to have retrained the muscles causing the wrinkles as the lines are still pretty faint. I think people might make the mistake of thinking that once you have it, you have to keep going. As far as I'm concerned, if the lines come back too much I'll have it again for 6 months, then take another break.

bibbitybobbityhat · 04/02/2012 14:27

Yabu.

Garliccheesechips · 04/02/2012 14:31

Give it a go. If you hate it you don't have to have it again.

NobodySpecial · 04/02/2012 14:39

It's not a one time thing though is it? Once you do it, you have to keep doing it for life, or you'll have times where you're wrinkly, and times you're not. People will talk, and it will be obvious you've had botox. Do you really want the trouble of remembering to book your botox appointments at your age?

NorthernWreck · 04/02/2012 14:53

Don't. Do. It.
Honestly.

My SIL (younger than you) gets it done, and at first it looked great-she looked younger. 2 years of Botox down the line and she looks WEIRD.

My advice is get a fringe, use Creme de la Mer, be less stressed, drink less booze, get lots of exercise, get to bed early sometimes, eat loads of fruit and be in love.

You will be glowing and botulism free!

leprechauncream · 04/02/2012 14:55

Yes, I've had it, totally brilliant. I go to a highly reputable practitioner - leader in his field, would not go on the High Street. Costs about £375 but worth every penny (think how much you can pay for creams which don't work). The results are subtle and last about 10 months. What's not to love? I don't understand this prejudice against Botox. It takes a few minutes, amounts to a few pinpricks and is far less of an ordeal than going to the dentist.

Ok, some people want to be 'natural' - with grey roots and hairy armpits, that's their prerogative. I would just recommend that you try it once, with an open mind, and make your own mind up. You will not regret it!

NorthernWreck · 04/02/2012 15:00

Not wanting to inject yourself with poison is not the same thing as wanting grey hair and hairy pits!
There are degrees you know!

Proudnscary-I missed your Russian shotputter comment r.e the fringe.
How about going a bit lighter in the hair department. Hairdressers on telly always say that can take years off Wink

ChooChooWowWow · 04/02/2012 15:04

I had it done last year. It has worn off now but I will go again. It was fab, not one person noticed I had had it done but I could see difference and it boosted my confidence no end. Because I felt so good about myself I came across as more confident which always makes people more attractive I think.

Mine was very subtle, celebs give botox a bad name because they riddle themselves with the stuff which looks ridiculous.

Give it a go op if you don't like it you don't have to do it again.

Al0uisee · 04/02/2012 15:05

I'm 42 and I've been having it for a year now, no one realises but I still get told that I have good skin. So something's working out right.

My first couple of sessions I decided to go for the brow lift effect which made me look a bit Spocky so now I just have my frown done, 6 little jabs inbetween the eyebrows, deep wrinkle went first time and never returned.

The best part is the not frowning, for some reason I feel happier and I'm sure it's because I can't frown anymore. I only have it done once every 3/4 months and I won't be going down the filler path either. yet

I go to Lucy Glancey because she has a clinic quite near me and is a Dr, I wouldn't want anyone else sticking toxins into me,

Samiantha · 04/02/2012 15:09

Well I've never had it, but I would say don't. You won't be you anymore.
One of the most beautiful people I know is beautiful because she radiates beauty, she beams, she enthuses, she's kind..men find her irrisistable. She is 45 and looks 45.

I don't really get why looking younger than you are is desirable. You are still the age you are. Embrace your lines!!!

I know you're not listening to me Wink.

megapixels · 04/02/2012 15:12

Can't say I know much about Botox, but really, do 32/33 year olds do it? Confused

CailinDana · 04/02/2012 15:19

Yes they do mega. I have a friend who's 33 and has started talking about having it done.

crystalglasses · 04/02/2012 15:27

I'm getting crows feet. Should I have some botox and if so will the wrinkles just slide down to my cheeks?

NorthernWreck · 04/02/2012 15:28

I was watching a female TV presenter the other day and thinking-wow, she is really quite wrinkly!
And then I realised-she looks normal. It's the fact that all the other female TV presenters have had botox thats makes her look older!

So this is another reason not to do it: the more women(and younger and younger women) do it, the weirder it will look to be aging naturally.

When my SIL first had it done, people kept saying to me on finding out she was older than me "Oh, I though she was younger than you?!"and it would make me want to yell SHE'S HAD BOTOX!!
I may have done this once or twice

NorthernWreck · 04/02/2012 15:29

Yes crystal. Yes they will.

megapixels · 04/02/2012 15:32

Don't you start getting wrinkles in your 40s?
