To be furious that my review of soft play has been deleted!

Not so long ago I visited a soft play in the croydon area (not sure if I am allowed to be mention it here?) and I had a really horrible time there due to several reasons. I made a comment on their Facebook page (a fair one) which although it was replied to, shortly afterwards it was deleted. I then made a comment on a local mums website, again I would say my comments were fair and all true. Yet again, my review was deleted! I am so livid at being censored in this way!

I've had similar happen when I noticed a very dodgy afterschool/holiday club advertised on a forum. I added my confirmed by ofsted comments and they were deleted.

I contacted the forum mods and was told that the childcare provider had threatened to sue so they removed my comments but allowed my links to the ofsted reports.

AgentZigzag · 03/02/2012 23:19

I suppose it's understandable on their own fb site, they can have whatever comments they want up.

GrahamTribe · 03/02/2012 23:24

I believe that the owners of a website or forum can be sued for opinions expressed there, even if they don't agree with them, so I can see why they removed yours. I can see why you're annoyed too though.

TheFarSide · 03/02/2012 23:27

I commented on the government's Facebook page offering careers advice for teenagers. I asked if their advisers were qualified. My question was deleted and I was banned from the site.

LineRunner · 03/02/2012 23:28

Stupid British libel laws.

cabbageandbeans · 03/02/2012 23:28

I just don't see how they can do that! Particuarly if you are actually making a comment with hard facts such as an ofsted report! Utterly frustrating.

My views were entirely subjective but honest. I had no hard facts, proof or evidence to back me up but I still feel furious about it. I can understand that a company wants to protect it's name and it's reputation but I am SO shocked about their behaviour! I just checked on the website where my review was removed and now it appears that they have completely removed the soft play details from that site and all the reviews that were there have also gone (many of which were equally negative!). I really feel I want my voice to be heard! It's enough to make me want to tweet!

Yes, that feeling that you are being silenced is highly irritating.

AgentZigzag · 03/02/2012 23:32

Are you really that shocked that their fb page took your comment down?

It's advertising for them, why would they leave it up?

If someone left something I didn't like on my fb I'd do the same.

cabbageandbeans · 03/02/2012 23:33

I am shocked! what IS the point of a forum or websites where reviews can be left? It is completely crazy that I can leave a gushing "I love this place" review but not a truly honest one saying "I didn't enjoy it here because It was bloody freezing cold.........."

OP posts:
cabbageandbeans · 03/02/2012 23:35

Not so shocked at the FB page. No of course, I understand that it is easy to delete what you like on there. Although I don't think I said anything that scandalous! Yes I am completely annoyed at the review website though! A site where people leave reviews ALL the time and many of them negative!

OP posts:
Pandemoniaa · 03/02/2012 23:39

I'd be cross but equally, I can't see why they'd want to host your critical comments on their Facebook page.

But to be honest, the last place I'd go for impartial reviews of any organisation/business would be a Facebook page created to promote it. I'd be much more inclined to take note of tweets or other, independent review sites.

cerealqueen · 03/02/2012 23:55

If this is the place I am thinking of.....yes OP, it is freezing in there! Went today, the toilets especially, plus no hot water in there either. The price of a sandwich is extortion.
I would have liked to have seen an honest review before we froze our tits off in there today!

cabbageandbeans · 04/02/2012 00:03

If you go to larger company FB pages (I am thinking supermarkets) - they have critiscim and answer the questions of the critical AND they actually give feedback about the issue being resolved on their FB page.........

"No baked beans in scarbourough?!!!"
"The delivery will be there this morning - enjoy your beans" .

That kind of thing.

On the FB page I merely said that it was very cold while I was there. They replied - we are getting new heaters this week. Then they deleted it. I have been told by a friend that they went there last weekend and the place is still FREEZING cold. So the soft play continues to rake in the money and it is only about 1/2 hour into your visit (which you have already paid for) that you realise your toes have frozen. Anyway as has been mentioned they can do what they like on their own FB page - fair enough.

But I used an independent review site and they had to remove my comments. So where does that leave us? Because it is not just me - I personally feel that this affects all of us. If you can't say anything negative without being censored then WHAT IS THE POINT!!!!!! All these bloody forums are a COMPLETE waste of time!

cabbageandbeans · 04/02/2012 00:07

Well cerealqueen, I feel for your frozen toes. Did you get a bucket of coffee that got cold faster than you could ever hope drink it? Spread the word - but you'll have to do it by word of mouth I am afraid!

OP posts:
cabbageandbeans · 04/02/2012 00:15

Maybe I should start a blog - can I be sued if I do that?!!!!! or even tweeting? Maybe just a placard pacing the high street! I am now understanding what drives people to such things!

AgentZigzag · 04/02/2012 00:21

Unless you think children are in danger because of the company, I think you're a bit OTT in your reaction to it.

Just go to another one?

There are plenty about.

cabbageandbeans · 04/02/2012 00:37

AgentZigzag - I hear you and I am inclined to agree. It's not just the cold - there were other issues but I am not going to get into that here. However, they were probably not safety issues and you are right. I am completely being OTT about it. Why? Because I have been censored. You are right, I will NEVER go there again and I tell all my friends that it is a horrible place. But every forum I have tried to use to express myself has been deleted. It is very annoying and I am very cross about the censorship much more than anything else.

Put a post up about it in the local section of MN, that's what my friend did after a similar experience.

You can be fairly sure it won't be deleted you can even swear and stuff if you like :)

cabbageandbeans · 05/02/2012 12:12

Thanks kateUnrulyBush! Bit nervous of doing so but maybe I will!

put your review on this thread

2rebecca · 05/02/2012 15:03

Facebook pages aren't there for reviews of things, they are there to promote whatever facility or organisation has set one up. If someone put up a poor review of our running club we'd remove it. The site is ran by members of the running club to promote the club and isn't meant to be a complaint forum. If you have a complaint about a facility that is worth complaining about go through the official channels. That way they will have to answer your complaint in writing within 3 weeks or whatever it is.
Facebook isn't Tripadvisor.

cabbageandbeans · 05/02/2012 17:25

2rebecca I am SO not bothered by the comment that I made on FB being removed as I said previously - their prerogative. However - I will emphasise that it was a comment and not a review. If one person thinks it is cold in a soft play it is likely that most visitors also thought the same. IF you have a FB comment on your running page that was accurate - surely FB is a good place to communicate with all your runners? For example if a run had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions (which I am sure never happens as most runners I know are die hards!) - surely you'd use your FB page? Like I said previously with sainsburys they will communicate on their FB page with their customers about items out of stock or problems that have occurred. It is great to scroll down their comments because you can see them dealing with the issues directly with the customer. Thus leaving their customers with a feeling that they are listened to. I actually think that is a good thing to do. I really respect honesty from a company and being able to put your hands up and say 'yes I am really sorry it was cold today - we'll have it resolved by tomorrow'. Interestingly it wasn't the cold which prompted me to leave a review on the other mums website but the behaviour of the staff towards my daughter and the group of parents I was with. A situation I wouldn't have commented on their FB page.

I don't think I will put my review on this thread as it wasn't the reason I started it. I just wanted to get a feel for if it is normal to have reviews/complaints removed. I was flabbergasted by it!

Was this where your dc was "assaulted" and you called the police?

ohdearwhatdoidonow · 05/02/2012 17:27

If not I have you mixed up with someone else.

cabbageandbeans · 05/02/2012 17:38

really assaulted? in a soft play! not my story but sounds like a fantastic one! No this was more of a damage to property incident. However - someone bloody should have called the police, that would have definitely made an impact!
