to banish DH to the spare room until he finds the receipt

DH entered a prize draw to win a £2,500 cellar of wine, we had a call this afternoon to say he'd won! Fantastic, this will save us a months wine bill fortune, all he needs to do is send them the receipt for the bottle which had the code thing on it.......can he find it? Can he hell.

Do you have a shed?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 03/02/2012 22:09

Is it likely to be in the spare room? Banishment would appear to be counter-productive otherwise.

squeakytoy · 03/02/2012 22:10

do you have a cellar? Grin

annh · 03/02/2012 22:11

Why would you have kept a receipt for a bottle of wine? What a bizarre method of proving your entitlement to a prize!

hellhasnofury · 03/02/2012 22:13

Sod the shed or cellar, banish the bugger to the coal hole.

Seriously though, why would you keep a receipt? I hope he finds it.

edwinbear · 03/02/2012 22:17

It is quite likely to be in the spare room as this is where the computer is, and every other single piece of paper that he has accumulated over the last 20 years such as car insurance for a car he owned in 1983 and the survey from a house we sold 10 years ago. It's either there or in the bin, which was collected on Thursday. The tip opens at 9am tomorrow morning and I shall be providing him with a pair of Marigolds in readiness.

If he's a habitual paper-keeper, maybe you should be joining him down the tip.

edwinbear · 03/02/2012 22:19

I would have hoped he would have kept it as it said quite clearly that you would need to send it in as proof of purchase if you won - he admitted he had noticed that. It is slightly bizarre I agree.

Spare room it is then!!

I hope he finds it!!

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2012 22:22

I know the competition you mean. As I unpacked the wine I noticed the competition but even by then I'd lost the receipt! Would proof of purchase do? Hope it turban up

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2012 22:22

Turns

Tryharder · 03/02/2012 22:24

Oh no! It could be worse - at least he hasn't lost a Euromillions winning ticket....

Your poor DH. I would be so cross with myself if I were him.

Have you searched all his pockets/wallets?

annh · 03/02/2012 22:24

Sounds like they would have had quite a small number of entires for the competition on that basis! Seriously, by the time I would even have read the competition rules (on the side of the wine bottle? or wherever) it could have been a week since I bought the wine. Who keeps a supermarket receipt for that length of time?

edwinbear · 03/02/2012 22:25

Stealth the Penfolds one? Yes, the very same.

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2012 22:32

Exackty annh! Yes, definitely bought penfolds recently (and if the receipt turns up by some miracle you are welcome to it)

edwinbear · 03/02/2012 22:39

Grin thanks, we had to type the receipt code into their website in order to enter so it needs to be this specific receipt. But I do have a cunning plan to see whether Waitrose can get us a copy....it's a long shot but for £2,500 of wine it has to be worth a try.

OP posts:
hellhasnofury · 04/02/2012 22:17

Did the receipt turn up?

edwinbear · 05/02/2012 18:06

We managed to get a duplicate from Waitrose, fantastic people that they are....it has 'duplicate' written on it but other than that, it's exactly the same. It's being sent tomorrow, so fingers crossed they accept it!

OP posts:
PurpleKittyKnitting · 05/02/2012 18:09

Hope they accept it!

cheekyseamonkey · 05/02/2012 19:35

Back seat of the car....

Good luck, hope they accept the duplicate
