To kick up a fuss at school on Monday re: show club?

So, Ds2 is in yr 6...

His junior school runs an after school show club, run by one of the teachers. Ds2 has attended this club, every friday since he started the school, four years ago. He is quiet, well behaved and not a brilliant singer (tone deaf imo) but we'll get to that.
Historically the biggest parts have always gone to yr 6, then 5, down the school until all parts were filled.
Fair enough. ds2 has waited patiently over the years, droaning singing in the chorus, having a word or 2....
So the parts for this years production were handed out today...
Guess what Ds2 got?
Nothing!
No part at all!
He comes out of school in tears, off I go to see teacher...
Where is Ds2's part, I say,...he's in yr 6...
Well yes, says teacher, you don't understand how difficult it is to cast these things, he might get a part by Easter if some other child drops out..
Teacher and I obviously not happy with each other.
now imo, these show are pretty rubbish,..this teacher always attempts things that are far too difficult, think Joseph, Bugsy Malone. it would be much better if he put on something simpler, where the dc could actually learn all the words and sing confidently, instead of staring lie zombies at the OHP.
But he takes this way too seriously and I'm guessing he didn't want Ds2 because he's not a good singer.
Surely he could have found him a small part? ds2 says there are small, speaking only parts.
Anyway, he's really upset, I'm livid upset too...
Am seriously tempted to see head on Monday...WIBU?

Next time you could tick the option that tells you your email has been read.

Ingles2 · 06/02/2012 17:38

That wouldbe good actually... don't suppose you know if thats possible on mail for mac?

I've got a Mac and I've never seen that option - it is very frustrating OP

RandomMess · 06/02/2012 18:48

Hopefully the head wants to tackle the teacher in question first before responding?

ReneeVivien · 06/02/2012 18:56

Good luck, Ingles. Can't believe some of the idiotic responses you've had on this thread; very pleased the majority have been sensible and sympathetic.

Ingles2 · 07/02/2012 14:12

not sure what to do next... WWYD?
As I still didn't have a response this morning, I forwarded the email to the office checking the email address...
Get a message back from office, saying HT is busy as Ofsted have just called for Infants next door and she hopefully get back to me at the beginning of next week.
Hmm
We are actually an infants (outstanding) and junior (satisfactory) on the same site and this head took over as Executive head of both last year, when our head left. There is a deputy head at each school.
Now I appreciate HT is busy, but I kind of agree with my dh, whose response was, well why hasn't she passed this onto the person currently managing the Junior school, ie. the Deputy?
Should I email saying pass it on to Deputy, or should I wait,.. a week seems too long really.

The HT may be unwilling to pass a matter of such urgency and overwhelming importance to a mere deputy.

Or perhaps with OFSTED to deal with, she hasn't given it much attention at all.

SuchProspects · 07/02/2012 16:57

OP I think it depends on what you think of the deputy. If the deputy is the top of the tree for the Junior's I would be inclined to go with him/her unless I had reason to think him/her ineffectual. But then I would probably have gone that route in the first place, so I'm guessing you aren't so confident?

It is exceedingly frustrating that oversight of schools seems to have this detrimental impact on the running of the school. Seems highly stressful for teachers , students and anyone who needs the school to work like normal during the inspection period. But in fairness to the head, it is the environment she has to work in and she has little choice but to play the game.

DontDickensBooksDragOn · 07/02/2012 17:10

Realistically, the head hasn't replied yet because, lets face it, it isn't important. Yes, it's shit and shouldn't have happened but it doesn't require the head's immediate attention.

Ingles2 · 07/02/2012 17:18

well,... In the grand scheme of things, no it's not important, but it is important to ds and I think if anyone has made a complaint in writing then that should be acknowledged.
Personally I think it's just symptomatic of the management problems in this school, executive headships etc are just not really working here atm.
Anyway, as I was going in to school to say we'll see the deputy, secretary grabbed me to ask if I would like to see deputy, so I'm just waiting for an appt.
I only went to the Head in the first place as she knows us due to progress meetings / SEN and she knew we were hoping show club would boost ds's self esteem. I'll have to explain everything all over again, but I'm sure that'll be fine. I'll let you know if anything interesting happens. (matter of opinion, I know Grin )

Could you not just have a word with the person who runs the club?
