To be a bit disgusted and insulted when guests don't shower?

I have a couple of regular visitors to my house who just don't use the bath or shower when they come, however long it's for. I know that both of them at home bathe on a daily basis and regard it as almost a bit of a treat at the end of the day, but they don't use my bath.

I should add that the bath is brand new and clean as a whistle - guest bathroom as well so no excuse that we are hogging it or anything. And I provide them with a fluffy towel as well and nice toiletries.

It's up to them of course but TBH I feel really insulted that they don't seem to want to use my bathroom and don't get why... Is it actually normal to visit someone's house and not have a proper wash, and I've never realised?!

YABU. I mean obviously if they start to smell, or have stayed a month and not washed, then yuk - but otherwise, get over yourself.
They might just not be comfortable using your bath/shower - no reflection on how clean you keep it.
They might be doing top-and-tail washes, rather than not washing at all.

Really, you can't expect everyone to conform to your ideas of doing things!

maybe they wrap themselves in Sellotape (or any other brand of sticky tape) and peel off the dirt.
A Top Tip I learned from Viz and one I'm sure my 12 yo DS employs. Hmm Grin

Salmotrutta · 03/02/2012 14:16

Do you provide flannels and shower puffs OP?

... OK, now I'm just being nosy.

rebecklet · 03/02/2012 14:16

YABU - I quite regularly stay at my sisters for one one night (Saturday). I will generally shower in the morning before I go, and then have a bath at home the night I get back (Sunday). Like previous posters say, I go to spend time with her not to lounge in the bath. If it were 2 nights I would of course have a shower.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 03/02/2012 14:21

Cerubina - 6 nights is definitely too long to go without washing so YANBU in that respect but you were a bit OTT to be disgusted and insulted. Maybe your friend just had a wash at the sink so was actually cleaning herself but just not bathing.

Insulted YABU
Disgusted YANBU

I shower everyday and bothers me to smell people who doesn't (not that i'm going around smelling everyone!) I'm currently thinking how I could get au pair to wash/change clothes more often Hmm I'm not asking for daily...

Cartoonjane · 03/02/2012 14:48

Disgusted and insulted is OTT, but I do wonder how people can get dressed in the morning without having a shower. I just never do that and would feel dirty if I did.

MoreBeta · 03/02/2012 14:48

YANBU. My FIL does this. Comes for 7 days and after a day of travelling and 3 days he is still wearing the same clothes and not had a shower.

Last time, I told DW that he smelled, who mentioned it to MIL who said 'I can't smell him'. Nevertheless he did go and shower.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/02/2012 14:54

What colour are your towels?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/02/2012 15:00

My FiL came for a week. He never showered or bathed and I suspect didn't wash his pits either. He also wore the same clothes for a whole week.
Durty sod.

Giyadas · 03/02/2012 15:06

I'll come and use your bathroom - mine's being decorated and is currently in a disgusting state.

I love showering/bathing at other people's houses, trying out their products (that they have left out for guests to use!) using their towels knowing I won't have to wash them.

Sleeping in anything other than my own bed leaves me cold however. Nothing as comfy as my bed.

Anyway op, stinky guests are not fun and it is foul. And offensive. So yanbu I believe. Don't invite them again. Pooo-eeeee

I don't shower every day even in my own home, usually 3 times a week, more is unnecessary unless I have been sweating, clothes changed every day etc. Hate bathing at other peoples houses and will do my best to stay clean without resorting to bathing or showering.

So yabu, I woud not shower at yours unless staying for more than 3 nights and would resent it.

SnapesDoxy · 04/02/2012 21:25

Do you guys really start to stink if you don't shower every day? Confused

What do you do to get so dirty?

aquashiv · 04/02/2012 21:27

Maybe they have excema or sensitive skin. Just ask them if it bothers you.

I can't bathe at someone elses home. Just can't. I get a little freaked out, no matter how clean their bathroom is

4madboys · 04/02/2012 21:35

maybe they had a strip wash? that tends to be what i do, i dont shower everyday, it dries my skin out but every morning i use a flannel and have a good all over wash, so i am perfectly clean.

i like to have a leisurely soak in the bath but i wouldnt feel comfortable doing that in a relatives house. i would maybe use the shower, but it would depend on how long we are staying, if its only for 2 or 3 days then a strip wash each morning is perfectly fine i find.

sheeplikessleep · 04/02/2012 21:36

Yanbu, 6 days, yuk
