Really quick poll needed - would you let your 12 year old have full head blonde highlights?

Umm, what it said in the title Grin

No

I wouldn't spend that sort of money on hair for anyone in the family.

cruelladepoppins · 02/02/2012 21:33

Forgot to say - I definitely would say "no" and I would explain why.

I say "no" to my 12-yr-old DS on several things and yes, he does sometimes think I am mean, but I am responsible for his welfare and I am in charge. I am not his best friend, I am his mother. Grrrraor!

whackamole · 02/02/2012 21:50

It's a shame they don't make those colour mousses for hair anymore. I used to use those.

But no to highlights, permanent and the upkeep - too much IMO.

SmethwickBelle · 02/02/2012 22:08

I agree, 20 years ago she could get a sachet claiming to be "ash blonde" and wash it in to absolutely no effect but it would make her feel a bit more grown up.

TattyDevine · 02/02/2012 22:11

I would let her, depending on certain circumstances. If she was a bit lacking in confidence and hell bent on it and about to start high school and this that and the other, I think I would let her and I'd pay for it and it would be something she would have in return for respect and good behaviour etc etc which isn't always a bad thing at that age, and if its something really important to her then, well, you own her Grin

I might feel differently when mine is 12 so ask me in 10 years (by which time her lovely blonde hair will probably be as black as dirt)...

TattyDevine · 02/02/2012 22:11

Obviously if money is an issue then you need to factor that in and think it through

canihavesome · 02/02/2012 22:19

No. Too expensive, too time consuming. Tell her to use shaders/toners like we used to although I tried to dye my hair a lovely auburn with shaders and it went pink but it did wash out after a few days. They were 99p in my day and we used to buy them and 'hot oil' from superdrug and think we were sophisticated.

CMOTDibbler · 02/02/2012 22:21

Absolutely not.

You can still get those sachets and wash in/out dyes though

Archemedes · 02/02/2012 23:14

Oh dear me,

I was 11 when I started dying my hair, and my hair is still in good condition as long as your sensible its okay.
And I don't think colour in someones hair is 'sexualising' them its just colour in hair , make cup is a different ball game.

However I was wearing a full face of make up and smoking when I was 12 so I know that those things don't neccesarily turn you into a flooozeh''
