exercise if she wants to?

Background - I work full time, have two DDs (6 & 8), am studying for my Masters, do all my own cleaning, ironing, cooking etc (with DH obv) and still manage to go to gym 3 times a week. I am no skinny minny (size 16 - 18) so not a fitness freak.

A friend of DDs mum asked me tonight if I'd been to the gym when we were picking up from brownies. I said no, for a swim, and she asked me what i had done and I told her - 20 lengths.

To which she replied - oh you're so good, you're lucky to go to the gym. Previously she has said she wants to lose weight etc.

Now her DH earns waaaaayyy more than me and DH combined. So why doesn't she find the time when her DDs are at school to exercise if she wants? It's not a question of money....

Well done all!

DH and I accurately predicted the response this baiting would get. Admittedly not from all of you, but the smug, schoolgirl mentality that is mumsnet won through. So while I will take the badge of honour, I would love to turn it back to you and present you all with the prize for the most irritating, glib, narrow minded bunch of individuals I have ever come across in my life.

Thanks for providing me and DH with a most amusing evening (even hq gave us a laugh)!

I don't understand why you care? I would like to exercise more and could afford the gym but simply cannot justify the time or cost to myself - being able to afford it doesn't necessarily make it a good use of family funds. In addition as I work full time I spend enough time away from my kids as it is so while I would "like" to do ore exercise if there were more hours in the day, I actually choose to prioritise other things.

Maybe your friends feels the same - just because she is sahm doesn't mean it's justified. My DH is sahd and says he would feel bad going to the gym while I am working my butt off to keep a roof over everyones heads, he prefers to spend that time on things that benefit us all.

What does it matter to you though if your friend chooses to go or not...?

I'm sorry OP the only person who comes out of this looking like a massive douche nozzle is....[wait for it]... you.

elvisaintdead · 01/02/2012 21:57

donteatyourtea- what odd people you and DH must be to get some kind of kick from posting banal threads and trying to predict the reaction?

I feel a bit sorry for you now - what a strange way to fill your time...

BettyBedlam · 01/02/2012 21:58

She's probably too busy with the shopping fairy, the cooking fairy, the cleaning fairy and the voluntary work fairy that come in to do jobs during the day, while she sits and polishes her handbags. Didn't you know SAHMs are very lazy.

Hmm
BettyBedlam · 01/02/2012 22:00

Just read your last post. Are you new to Mumsnet OP? Have you tried Netmums?

ComposHat · 01/02/2012 22:03

I'm amazed she has time, what with her being a busy working mother who is constantly down the gym.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 01/02/2012 22:19

Um...what?

Sorry, you've got such a wide variety of responses that you're going to have to narrow down what the 'smug schoolgirls' are saying.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 01/02/2012 22:22

I mean, a quick straw poll of the thread shows the most popular answer is, 'Who gives a shit?' (loosely paraphrased)

Is that all it takes to be irritating, glib and narrow-minded? Confused

mrsjay · 01/02/2012 22:25

wow is that what you and your husband do to get a giggle and pass time , most people watch tv read or book shag etc etc , but you and your husband in your matuarity troll internet forums , thats is hysterical but a little sad .

BsshBossh · 01/02/2012 22:51

Wow, you and your DH obviously lead exciting lives Biscuit.

Irishchic · 01/02/2012 23:18

Donteat You serious? Get some box sets, you and your dh have too much time on your hands.

iceandsliceplease · 01/02/2012 23:55

OP, have you considered that maybe you & your DH ought to take up a hobby together? Kayaking perhaps? Or quilting? Baking? Jigsaw puzzles? Crosswords? Decopatch? Knitting? Cordon bleu? Cake decorating? Foreign languages?

I genuinely don't understand your motivation in posting this, or the need for your crowing 'haHA! Joke's on YOU!' post. Unless of course your original post was serious, you now feel mortified that you're such a hoicky pants judgemental type, and want in some way to try to turn this onto people who bothered to respond to you.

LizzieChickens · 02/02/2012 00:30

Maybe instead of being on Mumsnet you could go to the gym?

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 02/02/2012 00:33

Have you considered taking up a hobby, OP?

Your local college probably offers all sorts of classes. Might be worth a look.

Or the op could follow the advice of Eth, my fabulously foul mouthed Irish friend:

'Jesus, Mary & cunting Joseph , have a wank and get over yourself'
