just wanted to ask about this situation.
I was on my way to an evening group last night, walking, when one of the other ladies from the group stopped and gave me a lift the rest of the way. We got to the carpark and i asked her if she needed change for the parking she said no that she had a carpark ticket. All fine so in we go. At the end she said, come on ill give you a lift to the end of your road, save you the walk, i asked if she was sure, she said yes.
Ae got to her car to find she had a parking ticket.
Turned out even after we had talked about it, she had forgotten to put her ticket in the car window.
She went back in and asked if they would accept it was a mistake and waive the fee but apparently they dont.
So she was fuming and said her hubby would be fuming and that she thought i should pay half so he wouldnt notice her paying the full wack.
I said no.
In my view, i didnt ask for the lift, i mentioned paying towards the parking, and she said she had it covered.
wibu?

Cheeky cow! Shock

No I wouldn't pay it. It wasn't your mistake.

DreamingofSummer · 31/01/2012 10:49

and the second word to her is "off"

KWL51 · 31/01/2012 10:49

give her half the parking cost? i certainly wouldnt be paying half of the fine. It was her forgetfullness that caused her to get a ticket.

scurryfunge · 31/01/2012 10:50

She should appeal if she did pay for the ticket. It's not down to you to pay.
Is she really so fearful of her husband though?

PurplePidjin · 31/01/2012 10:51

If you can afford it, make a contribution. However, that shoukd be a goodwill gesture and if she's demanding it then there's no goodwill

YWNBU to decline but it might make life awkward

notveryinventive · 31/01/2012 10:51

what dreaming said

giveyourselfashiny · 31/01/2012 10:51

not fearful really just he knows she has a permit and if she got the ticket it was purley her fault for not using it. and that they will have to find the money for it.

MateyMooo · 31/01/2012 10:53

i agree that you being there is purely coincidental. she'd have forgot even if she hadnt give you a lift.

be kind, but dont pay

WowOoo · 31/01/2012 10:54

No way. I insist on giving a friend of mine a lift to somewhere she normally walks to. To pick her up is on my way anyway.

She appreciates the lifts and often offers to pay for parking -only 50p - but I always refuse. If I did get a ticket it would be my fault entirely.

giveyourselfashiny · 31/01/2012 11:29

ok then, i will stick to my guns and not pay any of it!

OP posts:
IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 31/01/2012 11:32

Do not pay!

She probably isn't expecting you to anyway, she must know that asking you is outrageous in itself.

giveyourselfashiny · 31/01/2012 11:35

she seemed pretty convinced that as she had done me the favour of the lift that i should pay half.

OP posts:
ComposHat · 31/01/2012 11:38

Her car her problem.

You even reminded her about the ticket, she can only have herself to blame. If you were driving and crashed into a lamppost, would she offer to pay for half of the damage, just by virtue of the fact that she was a passenger in the car?

FlightRisk · 31/01/2012 11:39

??? some people are truly bizarre. Its a bit like the real hustle this. Tell her to get knotted cheeky mare

Honeydragon · 31/01/2012 11:41

Is she a bit desperate? Maybe her OH is an arse?

OTheHugeManatee · 31/01/2012 11:51

YANBU. That's outrageous. Don't pay!

SoupDragon · 31/01/2012 11:59

It would be nice if you did pay.

JustHecate · 31/01/2012 12:13

I don't see why you should pay tbh. You aren't responsible for her not putting her permit there. She would have parked there anyway. Is she suggesting that because she gave you a lift to a place she was already going, and parked where she was already going to park, it was half your fault that she forgot to display her permit?

That's bonkers.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 31/01/2012 12:19

No don't pay. Not your problem at all. If I was your acquaintance I would be challenging the ticket anyway as she can prove she had a permit. She could even say it fell into footwell of car when she slammed door. Who's to disprove that?

hiddenhome · 31/01/2012 14:09

Bizarre. It's her responsibility to ensure her ticket/permit was on show in her car. You even reminded her at the other end by asking about paying for a ticket. She's trying it on. Ignore.

CamperFan · 31/01/2012 14:12

"It would be nice if you did pay." Er, no, it would be silly. It's really random asking her to pay, almost as bizarre as asking one of the other members of the group to pay imo.

SoupDragon · 31/01/2012 14:20

No, it wouldn't be silly Hmm It would be a nice thing to do. I'm not saying she has to do it.

McPie · 31/01/2012 14:20

So if she got stopped speeding and fined would you be responsible for half of that if you were in the car at the time? Like heck you would! You brought up paying for parking, she told you it was sorted and she forgot to display her pass so it is her own silly fault and she needs to pay it herself.

JerichoStarQuilt · 31/01/2012 14:23

Presumably the ticket is a lot more than cost of the original car parking? Round here the ticket might be 2.50 but the fine could be 30 quid. No way would I pay half of that!

I'd offer to pay half the original ticket, as you said first.

Charlotteperkins · 31/01/2012 14:25

If you're well off and she isnt then you should pay something.
