Okay I know I am as it is none of my business really. And of course i wouldn't dream of saying anything to her or anyone in RL.

But really Candy - it just sounds like a strippers name to me. I always assumed names like these were made up when lapdancers, etc were adults - not given to them as children.

I knew a Candida. Awful name.

I'm not keen on Candy myself, but I don't see it as a "stripper" name - just a very American cheer leader type name.

2 of my fave Bruce Springsteen songs are about a candy - candy's room and candy's boy. You'll have to listen to them to see what candy was like :-)

No, it's a silly name. Love the Springsteen songs tho. And to anyone who studied Latin, 'candida' will always mean shining white. I like it.

The yeast infection is bright white under the microscope, hence the name.

To be honest, given the choice between referring to myself as a vaginal yeast infection and a name reminiscent of a truck stop waitress from the bible belt, I'd probably go for the latter.

I loved the film 'Candy' with Heath Ledger. The girl who acted Candy in the film was an absolutely divine. I'm not sure about the name.

I love the name Candy- and am usually an awful snob about names. In my first job, I worked with an unbelievably cool girl called Candice. And it also reminds me of Candi Staton, and Candy Darling.

It's just so... sugary, as well as being a bit stripper. She'll probably end up playing women's rugby and drinking Stella, which I imagine is not quite what her mother envisions if she's picked the name Candy .

Compared to some names out there Candy is passable - if not my choice.

My BF called her much awaited daughter Kitty Tiger Lily! But it suits her.

The only Candy I know has a PhD in biology and works at a top university. Hasn't stopped anyone taking her seriously.

I like it. And people are actually allowed to legally change their names as adults if they feel they are being held back or not taken seriously.
