To wonder how hard it is to get a food order right?

And I mean a café food order, not a bloody degustation menu...

Long weekend here - away for the weekend, back home today. 3 cafes in 2 days for coffee and a slice of cake.

In ALL THREE - the coffee arrived and they just never brought the food. Twice we chased up, and once we went up to pay and said the scone or whatever it was hadn't arrived, so please deduct from the bill.

I used to work in a bar - I understand the whole serving-the-general-public-food-and-beverages is mind-numbing work and 97% of the time you don't really give a shit, but surely bringing someone their order in its entirety is pretty much the whole point of waitressing? How difficult can it possibly be?

I am paranoid it is God telling me to stop eating cake.

I was thinking it must be an omission of God before I got to your final sentence.

Wherever I go it seems service is poor, and the food orders are wrong. Or cold. Or served at completely different times to each other.

Really winds me up. But I hold myself back every time, and just voice the complaint without loosing the plot at the fact that we don't get to eat out very often, and just once, it would be nice if somewhere could get the whole order right, edible, and hot. Sick of feeling like I've just thrown £40 away.

Last meal out - Chiquitos - normally I find them pretty good, however we went to a different restaurant that our usual, and the food was bland, lukewarm, and DS's was wrong. And we waited an hour for a table, so was hoping it would be worthwhile.

Clearly not.

Just real bad luck I think :P And a bad method of service which they ought to change.

Oh and my favourite trick is when I get served a meal with meat, instead of the veggie option. Like I won't notice?

Ohhhhhh Chiquitos!!! I used to LOVE going there, great food!

One day, however, I found a huge fat dead horsefly in my salad and screamed the place down like a fragile little woman and then burst into tears. Luckily for the owner it was lunchtime and pretty much dead in there.

Didn't stop me going back, but I did poke through my food a fair bit on subsequent visits.

My ex used to torture me with referrals to 'Freddy Furry Fly', making me repeat the scene in my head several times. I am suitably mortified at my appalling response as it was well over the top.

Lots of places, I find are the same. It's not often I go somewhere to find I'm actually pleased with the meal or service. It puts me off going out.

There's only one place I know of where service and food are always fabulous so I tend to stick with them.
