AIBU to think that the above statement that my friend has posted on her facebook is selfish and pathetic..

I should probably just forget it, but it has actually annoyed me! Angry

I think it's a joke?

I actually clicked on this thread to add "amen" Grin

Kayano · 26/01/2012 00:27

Really?

An Angry face for that? I think you need to relax

TotallyImmersed · 26/01/2012 00:28

I just see it as a piss-take of religion,

I just seem to have had a sense of humour failure..

Still don't like it though

OP posts:
DeepPurple · 26/01/2012 00:33

How is it a piss take of religion?
It's a light-hearted joke about an overweight person wanting to be skinny and if God can't achieve that then how about making everyone else bigger so they fit in.
Even if it was serious, surely it would be up to each person to decide what it is and isn't appropriate to pray for?

Kayano · 26/01/2012 00:36

Look at Bruce almighty when he says 'yes' to all prayers and millions of people win $17 on the lottery...

Do you get offended by
'oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz? My friends all drive porches, I must make amends?'

MaMattoo · 26/01/2012 00:36

Yabvu
It's a joke
It's not aimed specifically at you or anyone
Nothing to do with religion
And nothing to get Angry about.

Smile and move on Smile
And if you can't - it's ok to be unreasonable sometimes :) reason and logic being overrated IMO.

BettyBathroom · 26/01/2012 00:37

I think it's funny.

Hate Facebook though, people seem to spend their lives rowing over nonsense posted, it really is tedious and not very healthily - step away now!

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 00:40

Oh FFS lighten up!

I thought you were going to say you were angry at the thought anyone would want a friend of theirs to be fat and unhealthy.

And I was still going to say oh FFS lighten up it's a joke!

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 00:41

Just like MN then but without profile pics on every post Grin

MayaAngelCool · 26/01/2012 00:44

How can anyone take that seriously? It's so obviously a joke! Anyway, in Jewish culture humour is said to have a special place in God's heart, so s/he would be LHAO with your friend!

TotallyImmersed · 26/01/2012 00:45

Worra, that is what I thought, how they have said a prayer about something unchristian, wishing something they see as bad onto their friends, I just see it as selfish.

Meh.. I should go to sleep

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 00:48

Yeah well I doubt the good Lord is going to stuff you with Jaffa Cakes while you sleep, so you'll be quite safe I'm sure Grin

Ringadingding · 26/01/2012 00:51

My very very religious christain friend has this very magnet on her fridge with a picture of a hippo, do you know who bought it for her......the vicar!

I am highly jealous!!! I want the vicar to buy me a hippo magnet!

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2012 00:58

Ring I grew up in an Irish Catholic family and as much as most Irish Catholics of that time took (as some still do) their religion very seriously, they were King of the 'Irish Blessings'...even our Parish Priest used to say "May you get to heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead" Grin

Or my Dad's favourite.... ?May all who love the Lord, love you and those who don?t love you, may the Lord give them a limp so you can see them coming.? Wink

DaPrincessBride · 26/01/2012 00:59

Have my first Biscuit

Couldn't resist.... :o

Whatmeworry · 26/01/2012 01:02

Next you lo'll all be saying that people who Get Offended don't have senses of humour...

GoingForGoalWeight · 26/01/2012 01:04

It's a joke and no amount of wishing on her part will change another's body shape or indeed her own!

:)

GoingForGoalWeight · 26/01/2012 01:04

*or praying

aldiwhore · 26/01/2012 01:09

I can understand why, if your religion is very important to you, that you'd find it irritating, so you wouldn't do it.

I'll pray to anything to make me richer, thinner, and a better singer. But hey ho. Not disrespectful really, I'm not offending YOUR God, but my own, who I don't believe in. If your God doesn't like it, he'll smite me or punish me for all eternity. He/She/It will be the judge.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 26/01/2012 01:20

My mum is Christian and has a mug saying "Jesus is coming. Look Busy."

TopazMortmain · 26/01/2012 01:34

This kind of OP reminds me that I have stuff to do that's not MNetting...

Honestly OP - there are bigger things to worry about than someone else's inane / innocuous / faintly amusing FB status.

Wink
SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 26/01/2012 01:38

Admit it OP, you're just worried you're going to wake up with a bit of extra padding in the morning.

I am surprised at the amount of threads on here at the moment which probably sound fine in the poster's head, but where the mental hand-break mechanism in your brain really should kick in and say *DON'T DO IT' before you hit 'start thread'.
