Are some people just not aware of what is going on around them or are they basically selfish?

Just been to post office, huge queue. Woman being served is on her mobile so holding the queue up. She was on the phone for a good 5 minutes meaning the woman serving her couldn't do anything. I can't get my head around someone not being aware of the 10 or so people behind her. It wasn't even anything vitally important. Just chatting to a friend about some such banalities. Idiot.

Did no one say anything? as in a tap on the shoulder and a pointed "Excuse me, you're holding up the queue"?!

JustHecate · 25/01/2012 12:58

Person at the counter should have yelled "NEXT" and just told her to step to one side until she was off the phone.

JustHecate · 25/01/2012 12:59

oh, but to answer your question - yes. some people are selfish arseholes Grin

strandednomore · 25/01/2012 12:59

Sadly I just think some people genuinally don't care about anyone else. A man parked his car literally right in the middle of the school crossing yesterday to wait for his child - we all had to work our way round the front of him, including really little children. He just didn't care that he could have pulled forward a few yards to allow us to cross. The hatred I feel for these people sometimes alarms me!

Hammy02 · 25/01/2012 13:07

Her husband was stood behind her, facing the queue so he would have been completely aware of how many people she was holding up. Pair of fucking ignorants knackers.

Pig ignorant, yes, but the cashier should have been able to move her on, surely? I would have directed most of my anger at her, tbh. Did you say anything to her when you (eventually) got to the top of the queue?

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2012 13:19

Oooh, my blood would have been boiling!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 25/01/2012 13:26

YANBU.... Mobile phones have a bizarre effect on some people. Manners go right out of the window. They're either standing there with a finger in the air 'shh' or they're YELLING at the person at the other end, oblivious to the fact that you are standing right in front of them, deafened. Calls are so important that it's worth steering one-handed and risking a fine than just leaving it to ring through to voice-mail. When a mobile goes off, why does it get higer priority than everything else... people included?

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/01/2012 13:27

But why did nobody say anything to her/her husband or the cashier? Confused

lollilou · 25/01/2012 14:35

Oh dear I did this at the Doctors surgery. In my defense though I had been queuing for ages to tell them my Dd was being rushed down from school with a suspected broken arm just as I got to the reception the school phoned to give me an update so I was stood there holding up the queue the people behind did not look happy.

scarletforya · 25/01/2012 15:36

Bloody hate these people.

Check out for an example of pure self entitled ignorance and selfishness.

She parks her car accross a lane of traffic abandons it and then goes nuclear on the man filming it. I think her boyfriend beats up the guy in the end. Shock

QuacksForDoughnuts · 25/01/2012 16:45

Even better when it happens at the station when you have five minutes to get your ticket and that dickhead person turns out to be pre-booking. You can imagine how thrilled I was to hear that their destination involved one of the worst stretches of line in the country! [bwink]

mrsjay · 25/01/2012 16:48

girl getting on the bus today let her little boy on and then answered her text before paying her bus fare , I do think people have no awareness of others and her little boy was half way up the bus before she noticed he wasnt beside her , A text cant be that important can it ?

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 25/01/2012 16:50

So many people are selfish these days. I am just not very tolerant of it now. If I was the post office assistant I would have just served the next person, then the next, then the next, until mobile phone selfish cow got the message that she had to go back in the queue!

BalloonTwister · 25/01/2012 16:51

I hate mobiles. I particularly hated them when I worked in hospitality people often answer the phone in the middle of being served in bars and restaurants, and cut the off the person serving them mid question/sentence. Rude.

nogoodswimmer · 25/01/2012 16:57

scarletforya that woman is terrible! Shock

JustHecate · 25/01/2012 17:02

bloody hell, scarlet. I hope that sarah duncan is ashamed of herself. I would certainly be giving her business a miss if I lived in Bath!

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 25/01/2012 17:14

Disgusting behaviour from Sarah Duncan. Typical selfish business owner who is full of self importance and thinks she can do what she likes!

JustHecate · 25/01/2012 17:15

oi! I'm a business owner, y'bugger! Grin

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 25/01/2012 17:20

Apart from you and all other business owners frequenting this forum, Hec Grin

JustHecate · 25/01/2012 17:22

I should think so! Grin

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 28/02/2012 17:50

I wondered if Sarah Duncan had had a mention on here (searched and resurrected a thread that isn't quite zombified yet).

I've just seen the video as it seems to be going viral now and she and her husband were awful. She actually says she will lie to the police and claim the man assaulted her first! You can add me to the list of people who will boycott her business (not that she will notice as I am nowhere near Bath Grin)

And at least I'm not on the list of people sending her death threats. I do think they were both a pair of nasty, self-entitled little madams but I wouldn't want to kill them for it. I hope the man who was filming was alright, it sounded quite violent by the end of the video.
