"Oooh that's not FUNNY"

"Oooh your username is RUBBISH"

"Oooh you SWORE"

"Oooooh you used capitals"

"Ooooh you used ... in a thread title"

"Oooh you have not posted in a way that I have deemed acceptable."

Who died and made you owner of the board? AIBU if from now on every time I see a self-appointed board police on patrol to link to and tell them to wind their necks in?

OP posts:
FromTheFarSide · 24/01/2012 21:31

I haven't, no. I thought the boards were lightly moderated.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2012 21:31

This is hardly a bonhomie thread is it
Turned into she said this, trolls say that, mnhq interventions to put folk straight, bit of not like ole days

I'd say it's gone tits up.completely

Boomerwang · 24/01/2012 21:33

Yes. I might report this thread for being... uh... I'll go and think about it first.

KatieMiddleton · 24/01/2012 21:34

Just reporting something doesn't do anything. If there is no problem MNHQ will leave it well alone. If something is not right they'll do something.

I never get why people are reluctant to report?

  1. Nobody knows unless you tell them
  2. It's much nicer to bring something iffy to the attention of MNHQ than persecuting someone on the boards

Am I missing something?

scottishmummy · 24/01/2012 21:37

Yes you're missing some people like to troll hunt,
and some like to keep gripes going, rehashing aggro of yore

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/01/2012 21:38

Mumsnet is lightly moderated FromTheFarSide but we cannot pull folks up on posts that we don't know are there.

We can't possibly look at every single post, so we ask that if you see something that breaks our guidelines you report it to us.

KatieMiddleton · 24/01/2012 21:41

Well if you report that's not troll hunting is it? It's the opposite of doing it on the boards??

LeBOF · 24/01/2012 21:45

What is it with these feminists sticking up for women, eh? They make me sick.

FromTheFarSide · 24/01/2012 21:48

Ok, understood, I will from now on, thanks.

FromTheFarSide · 24/01/2012 21:52

Their views can be extreme (at times), and unfair. It's not just about sticking up for women.

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/01/2012 21:56

Custy - really sorry to hear that . I hope you can bring yourself not to care what the ignorant poster said.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2012 21:57

Troll hunting is independent of mnhq, that's the point.individuals discuss and speculate on posts and posters without recurse to mnhq. And trot off to search posting history, make spurious links, for the ta dah moment

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 24/01/2012 21:57

i have six year old. don't take her to the supermarket though...
sad to hear that, C, hope things are easier now.

LeBOF · 24/01/2012 21:58

That does not constitute a personal attack though: it is one person's opinion. I don't like a lot of things that right-wingers post, but I don't assume that if one writes something I dislike that it needs deleting or even that other right-wingers agree with them.

KatieMiddleton · 24/01/2012 21:59

Yes. That is rather my point. Why not report suspicions and save the upset?

It seems rather attention seeking to have to do it publicly. Why not do it quietly without the spectacle? Unless it is the drama and spectacle that is the appeal. Which I suspect it is.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2012 22:02

some people love to search the archives, ask if new, and generally hold dem glistening torches high

A discreet report to mnhq, well that wouldn't draw a crowd in same way

LeBOF · 24/01/2012 22:05

I think it's perfectly reasonable to be sceptical of people's motives on a thread though, which is possible to do without calling troll. It doesn't have to be attention-seeking either.

Rational · 24/01/2012 22:06

It was the feminists that got to me, they systematically tore everything I said to shreds then bated me to tears. All because I disagreed that the woman OP was wrong and their advice was wrong.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 24/01/2012 22:06

i think it's a function of the place becoming so much bigger as well, people court notoriety and a quick way of achieving that is a triumphant troll unveiling. 'i called it first' etc etc

aquashiv · 24/01/2012 22:07

YADNBUST

Hullygully · 24/01/2012 22:07

Custy!

When that shit happens, you summon yer mates, innit?

Are you all right now?

xx

Laughed v much at "angry like a bull"

Rational · 24/01/2012 22:07

Bad post, I meant I said the op was wrong and their advice was wrong. Bleuh, I'm tired.

Hullygully · 24/01/2012 22:08

I don't give a shit about any of it

If I think someone is an arse, I'll say so then and there.

I don't care what people say to me/about me.

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/01/2012 22:09
