"Oooh that's not FUNNY"

"Oooh your username is RUBBISH"

"Oooh you SWORE"

"Oooooh you used capitals"

"Ooooh you used ... in a thread title"

"Oooh you have not posted in a way that I have deemed acceptable."

Who died and made you owner of the board? AIBU if from now on every time I see a self-appointed board police on patrol to link to and tell them to wind their necks in?

Hi all,

Wink

We do have newbies (and oldies) who are unaware of the Talk guidelines and the general rooles from swearing to libellous posts.

All of the information is linked to at the top of Talk it is always good to have a re-read once and a while or link to folks who are new and just finding their feet.

Here is our Getting started guide and our MNetiquette

We don't have many rooles but we do ask that folks respect one another as a bare minimum and please do report anything to us that you feel breaks our Talk guidelines - oh and swear as much as you like but don't personally attack.

@KatieMiddleton

Any new on the anti-bullying stuff Rebecca?

Hi Katie,

We think that bullying is fairly well covered in the guidelines in the sense that we do not allow personal attacks against individuals. If you feel that anyone is being targeted then please do report it to us and we will take a look.

@MorrisZapp

I prefer to call troll, that's just me. I don't like seeing well meaning people get the piss taken out of them.

I could argue that if you don't like my troll hunting you should just hide the thread, ignore me or report it.

Morris, we would, very politely, ask you not to call troll on the thread but to report it to MNHQ via the Report button because if you're wrong, you could cause untold hurt; if you're right, you'll merely be giving the troll just the kind of attention they're after. You can find out more about this here

@BupcakesandCunting

I think it's justified for example if you've been lurking on a thread and see someone use disablist/racist/sexist language. It's fine to wade in then and go "Oi, you're being a dick."

Actually, we would really rather that you didn't [broken record emoticon]

It is against our guidelines to personally attack a poster even if they are breaking our guidelines. Please just hit report and ignore, we can then take a look, email them or look at banning them should they continue.

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/01/2012 21:16

@Boomerwang

noooooooo RebeccaMN don't encourage people to do that, all the fun would be lost if people thought they'd be reported for the smallest thing!

(don't ban me please :()

We really don't have very many guidelines Boomerwang and we do like to let the conversation flow, but basic respect is a must and personally attacking someone is not showing them respect.

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/01/2012 21:25

Do you report them?

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/01/2012 21:38

Mumsnet is lightly moderated FromTheFarSide but we cannot pull folks up on posts that we don't know are there.

We can't possibly look at every single post, so we ask that if you see something that breaks our guidelines you report it to us.

@TwoIfBySea

YANBU but there are a couple of threads ongoing just now that, to be honest, someone needs to step in and get everyone to calm the hell down a bit. (More than) slightly screechy and nasty in tone toward anyone that hadn't agreed with them on the recent heated debate that has been going on.

At that point I'd welcome the Mumsnet Gestapo to do their worst.

Hello hello,

Do please report any threads that you think need looking at (if you haven't already). Evening shift has just kicked in so we will get on any reports ASAP.

Thanks,
MNHQ
