"Oooh that's not FUNNY"

"Oooh your username is RUBBISH"

"Oooh you SWORE"

"Oooooh you used capitals"

"Ooooh you used ... in a thread title"

"Oooh you have not posted in a way that I have deemed acceptable."

Who died and made you owner of the board? AIBU if from now on every time I see a self-appointed board police on patrol to link to and tell them to wind their necks in?

I would like every current member of MN to be privvy to a sense of humour audit

Show them a funny thread. Show them a large lady on an out of control moped on You've been framed, if you like. Show them a baby monkey riding backwards on a piglet

If they fail to laugh at any of these they are B A N N E D

BupcakesandCunting · 24/01/2012 20:17

No scottishmummy. It was supposed to be reminiscent of someone reaching the end of their tether with talk that doesn't tally with their 'like' list and having a bit of a benny. Why am I explaining this to you?

Very good, Boffy. Grin

The minge is back on an even keel thanks, mumblecrumble. Awww, have you been worried about my ladygarden all this time? That's so sweet. Wink

Where did I say I like intelligible posts?

FFS I've done it again. I said after our last little fracas that I wouldn't engage with you and here I am. Stop it Bupcakes, STOP IT.

scottishmummy · 24/01/2012 20:18

scottishmummy · 24/01/2012 20:19

Fracas you say
How very delicious

TheParanoidAndroid · 24/01/2012 20:20

I understood perfectly. I even recognised the . Not that I've ever had a meltdown of that type, no siree bob

BupcakesandCunting · 24/01/2012 20:20

If you read the bit before the shouty bit, where it says I might go mental in a pub and smear shit all over myself, it does actually make some kind of sense.

STOP IT.

Thank you Android.

Sometimes I feel like I am going mad. :(

It was somewhat, unusual in it's prose
Maybe I had to be there

TheParanoidAndroid · 24/01/2012 20:24

It's far nicer on the other side of that worry. Once you realise your rocker came off hinges a while ago it just gets easier.....

What if somebody comes onto a thread, not having previously posted/taken part in the discussion, and singles out a particular poster for abuse (ie, calls them an unpleasant name), because they don't agree with them? Is that ever justified?

What if there is a thread that could become a serious discussion or could be a bit of a laugh, but one poster decides to take it seriously and talk about the subject seriously? Is it ok for another poster to tell them off for this and tell them it's a jokey thread and not to continue posting in a serious vein?

I think it's justified for example if you've been lurking on a thread and see someone use disablist/racist/sexist language. It's fine to wade in then and go "Oi, you're being a dick."

I think it's fine if someone comes into a jokey thread and gets all serious too, as long as they don't expect the tone of the thread to change to suit them. It's also fine to point out naicely that the thread ain't all that serious. I have been guilty of this before... not reading properly and getting a gist of the thread and offering earnest advice before someone goes "Fuck off Buppy, we're talking about duck fucking" Blush

Maryz, you are a lovely, lovely woman.

And I'm not even drunk.

OP posts:
Tortington · 24/01/2012 21:00

i'm not posting so much anymore because no one is really very supportive.

i changed my name the other day, with huge huge personal shit, and the 'advice' almost made me want to just jump off the pier - not in a metaphorical way either. i was so emotionally raw and the advice was awful from a turd who was basing her advice on how she took her 6 year old to the supermarket. my kids are over 19 years old

and sometimes - you just cant talk to 'real people' and tell them this stuff.

i have always hated the ' aint like it used to be' type people. but seriously every other post is an argument - not a difference of opinion, and im getting to the point where my answer is just going to be ' fuck off' instead of any opinion on the subject matter at all.

Actually, we would really rather that you didn't [broken record emoticon]

It is against our guidelines to personally attack a poster even if they are breaking our guidelines. Please just hit report and ignore, we can then take a look, email them or look at banning them should they continue.

Boomerwang · 24/01/2012 21:12

bupcakes do people misunderstand you very often? I laughed my tits off (quite silently tbh) at your pub rant a page back there. scottishmummy how could you not tell it was a joke that bupcakes fully didn't care about coming off as shouty/grammatically correct/whateverthefakjustreadthatbacktomyselfsoundsmorefuckedupthanafuckedupfuckup

Am yow in the dumps bout summat?

Boomerwang · 24/01/2012 21:13

noooooooo RebeccaMN don't encourage people to do that, all the fun would be lost if people thought they'd be reported for the smallest thing!

(don't ban me please :()

We really don't have very many guidelines Boomerwang and we do like to let the conversation flow, but basic respect is a must and personally attacking someone is not showing them respect.

FromTheFarSide · 24/01/2012 21:22

Fair enough Rebecca...but what about all the feminists patrolling the relationships board? You don't pull them up, and they say some outrageous stuff.

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/01/2012 21:25

Do you report them?
