AIBU to think that 12 is a bit too young for first pair of heels?

DD is year 8, 12 years old.

She has a party to go to this Saturday and wants a pair of shoes with high (ish) heels.

I feel really conflicted about it. On the one hand I don't want her to be the the girl who's mother makes her dress like a baby. On the other I think 12 is still very young.

Then there's the issue of being a big fat hypocrite as I often wear sky scrapers.

These are they www.office.co.uk/womens/office/brogue_baby/33/8139/21656/1?fs=8139 if you want to look.

So AIBU? Should I get them for her?

Jins, mine were black T-bars. Luckily black nail polish was in fashion back then, as I was forever having to touch up the heels (naturally hard on shoes, no brickwork required Grin).

Yes even if her own money, would be good to show her she could easily get a whole new outfit, including shoes, for 65 quid!

GirlWithPointyShoes · 24/01/2012 12:18

Show her these

They have a much better heel and are half the price which means she could get another pair. No harm in encouraging her to be sensible with her money!

Yes. DD bought herself some for a party. Took them off as soon as she got there and put them back on to come home.

BelleDameSansMerci · 24/01/2012 12:19

I had shoes like the first pair when I was 12. Not the second pair though! They do look "pinchy" though.

I started dying my hair at 13. Grin

Just saying,

wordfactory · 24/01/2012 12:22

They look fine if she thinks she can walk in them! She'll have to wear them a bit to break them in/get used to them won't she? Maybe get some party feet for her to wear inside them?

NorthernWreck · 24/01/2012 14:11

love the first pair-I want some!

Aah, I remember my first pair of kitten heels aged 12. Real PVC they was.

Personally, I like ballet flats on young girls, but if I was 12 I would want heels too. A little tiny heel is OK i think. Nothing really high.

blondie80 · 24/01/2012 15:08

My dd (12) would love those, I think they're fine and far better than the other pair she wanted.

Word, I know where you're coming from re: their own present money, I let dd spend hers on what she wants, once it gone it's gone, although I would definitley influence her away from anything inappropriate mercedes mcqueen style dresses
