YANBU. Though I think its easier just to call them stupid twats.

SoupDragon · 23/01/2012 09:34

There are too many professionally offended people about. It's certainly easier to call them stupid twats.

aldiwhore · 23/01/2012 09:42

Agree with Soup Dragon I would rather spend time talking to someone who doesn't instantly get 'offended' (mildly miffed is fine, as is acknowledging wrong doing without the handwringing and wailing) than the hysterical professionally offended.

There's stupid twats at either end of the spectrum.

I rarely get 'offended' unless something is aimed at me or something to do with me and its wrong. I would stick up for people who've been offended by aresholes and ignorance, but I do think offence is an over used word.

pictish · 23/01/2012 09:44

Professionally unoffended - what does that mean?

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 23/01/2012 09:46

Ooh, thread about a thread, seeker? Bad form! Grin

YANBU.

But I think the problem is that people can look at one small incident and go, 'That hardly matters, I don't see what you're complaining about'.

When actually all the small things come together to form attitudes and shape society, for better or worse. So the small things do matter - they matter hugely. But only if you can see the big picture.

wannaBe · 23/01/2012 09:48

agree with soupDragon. The professionally offended are just tiresome.

But what's this thread about?

Professionally offended, I get.
What is professionally unoffended though?

seeker · 23/01/2012 10:17

Aretexmonkey- with the traditional response "Some people have no sense of humour"

I agree. Are the - 'There is absolutely nothing wrong with leaving a 2 day old in the house on their own for an hour or so. I was left in the hospital toilets after birth for 2 weeks while my parents went on a cruise and it didn't do me any harm. And anyone who disagrees with me is a helicopter parent and/or Daily Mail reader - type of posters included?

Professionally unoffended to me means. 'So what if your boss called you a smelly old bollock. That's tame for where I work. Perhaps he didn't mean it and it is a term of endearment to him.'

pictish · 23/01/2012 10:34

Ah...I thought it was referring to those who have the good grace to reserve judgement, and mind their own business.

NorthernWreck · 23/01/2012 10:38

SecretMinceRinser! I genuinely lolled at that.

Do you really rinse mince? I have to ask.

cory · 23/01/2012 10:41

You mean Professionally Unoffended as in: "What do you mean it is not on to refer to children poofs/pakis/slitty-eyed/mongs? In my day we used to roll the poofs in tar and sprinkle feathers on them for a laugh and no mongs ever showed their faces round our way. Honestly, these PC people are taking all the fun out of life"?

NorthernWreck · 23/01/2012 10:44

It's polital correctness gorn maaaad!

cory · 23/01/2012 10:45

Otherwise known as manners.

SecretMinceRinser · 23/01/2012 10:47

I don't rinse mince. It's a reference to a thread in classics about someones dh who rinses mince and a load of other things you can do to food that rhymes. Was very funny.

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 23/01/2012 10:51

Professionally Unoffended equals bigotted arsehouse IME.

SecretMinceRinser · 23/01/2012 10:56

Aye 'pc gorn mad' types are strange. There are rights that are much more worth fighting for than the right to potentially offend surely?

Hullygully · 23/01/2012 11:04

I never see any of those. I only ever see the frothers. Where do the unoffended hang out?

NorthernWreck · 23/01/2012 11:06

Ah, I see mince.
I need a new username, that doesn't involve Northern, as there are too many northerns.
Sorry, not hijacking thread, just work avoidance..[smil]
