Fuckitt, wank and arsebiscuits.

MrsSnaplegs · 20/01/2012 18:11

What did it fail on? Is it salvageable?

hiddenhome · 20/01/2012 18:11
Sad

Something major or easily fixable?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 20/01/2012 18:11

Will it cost a lot to mend?

AtYourCervix · 20/01/2012 18:12

lots of little bits that add up to a massive bill.

has to be fixed. can't get to work without it.

i actually want to cry a bit.

hiddenhome · 20/01/2012 18:13

Sad sympathy for you Brew

AtYourCervix · 20/01/2012 18:13

i can do some extras in work - will be knackered but at least an option. but will be paid next month, so will need to scrimp and scroung to pay it now.

fuck.

why is it just when you think things are skimming along it all goes tits up again?

OP posts:
MrsSnaplegs · 20/01/2012 18:14

Do you have anyone handy who can do it to save on labour costs?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 20/01/2012 18:15

Sad. I approach the car's MOT with more trepidation than a trip to the dentist nowadays. I'd say double check that all teh things they say need to be done DO actually need to be done.

AtYourCervix · 20/01/2012 18:15

unfortunately not. why did i not marry a mechanic? or a plumber? or a millionaire?
it's fine. can pay it, just will have to sell a kidney work a bit more.

and nothing to go in the vet bill/holiday savings pot for a few months.

No help at all for you but my car's gearbox died 4 months after it's MOT and service and 3 weeks after I put 2 new tyres on it. (Would've cost £5,000 to fix) B'Stard.

PurplePidjin · 20/01/2012 18:17

Pm me with make model age location and i'll ask dp. He's big on VW's and might know someone

The bug just cost my dad £600 just in parts (serves him right for offering as a present, we will be contributing!) so i feel your pain Sad

MrsSnaplegs · 20/01/2012 18:18

If its on the red sheet it has to be fixed if its on the orange sheet it is "advisory" and you can leave it a couple of months

TheFeministsWife · 20/01/2012 18:18

Bloody shite MOTs are. My car failed in November, cost £500 to get it sorted!

Sorry it failed.

RevoltingPeasant · 20/01/2012 18:18

Argh. Can you get a 2nd quotation from another garage? There are some surprising differences in price after I found out when I had to spend nearly a grand on mine.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 20/01/2012 18:19

When mine failed last year (this year it failed and it was curtains sadly!) the lovely bloke at Halfords or whatever it is now told us that their labour charge was something like £75 per hour, but if we took it round the corner the local garage would do it for something like £35 ph! He also said he'd do a free retest after bless him (and that was on a half price MOT)! Don't think he liked working for a big rip off chain tbh! Grin So basically shop about, the charges do vary enormously!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 20/01/2012 18:20

Oh, and have a 'shitty cunting bastard cars' too! My 'new' one also needs work cos the knob jockey that sold it to me never honoured his piece of piss 3 month warranty. Fucker!

AtYourCervix · 20/01/2012 18:21

garage chappie is a mate of DHs so trustworthy and knocked a chunk of labour off anyway. and only did the 'must have' jobs. the oil leak and exhaust will have to wait.

arse.

If you live in/ver near to Birmingham my hubby is a mechanic and can probably do it at a fraction of the cost.

EllenandBump · 20/01/2012 18:26

3months after paying £1000 for a punto its power steering column went and clutch. We called out the AA and they informed us it was unsafe to drive. Apparently it was going to cost more than the car was worth to repair Angry

AtYourCervix · 20/01/2012 18:28

thanks blue - but nowhere near.

t's a bugger, it really is.
