Peacocks gift vouchers: AIBU to be REALLY annoyed

that they are taking money for nothing? They are no longer accepting them in stores. I do not understand why, as the company has ALREADY received the money, it's not a credit card.

Can anyone in retail explain this to me?

(I know you can send them off to the administrators, but lets face it, you are bottom of the debt chain so probably won't get anything)

I'd be tempted to take my £20 or whatever of goods to the counter and hand over the voucher or giftcard. And walk out with the stuff! ( as long as no security tags on!)

Not exactly theft and not sure how they could prosecute!!

I'd be aghast at actually receiving Peacocks gift vouchers in the first place.

Count yourself lucky it's only the voucher you have lost, my friend works there and doesn't know how she is going to pay her mortgage if her store closes down.

Trifle Peacocks actually do some lovely stuff but I may be a bit miffed receiving one of their vouchers too...would prefer River Island :)

YANBU. This happened with Woolies, too. But we could exchange the vouchers for goods. While we were trading. Thing is, a lot of people bought the vouchers as Christmas presents. By the time Christmas came around, the stores still open were flled with the dregs from the warehouse. One game grandmother brought £20 of pegs, just out of principle. She was fabulous

I think some of the problems they may have had with the shops is that they only sell the decent stuff online it seems - like the pearl lowe and suchlike, so the stuff instore was the less fashionable cheapy stuff. Plus you couldn't use vouchers online either!

Does anyone know if there still doing refunds though? i only bought a few maternity dress last week, didnt have time to try them on and a week later their in administration, i feel for the people who may be out of work, seems like there will be no shops or jobs left in this country!

chickens I would go in and exchange for stuff I didn't want on principle too if they accepted the vouchers! Go your Gran!

What is the rationale for them not taking vouchers.

The vouchers are pre paid or am I missing something.

Unfair for them to not take vouchers that they have received money for already.

Goods sold before the appointment of the Joint Administrators cannot be refunded or exchanged. The customer may have an unsecured claim against the Company in respect of such goods that are defective.

Please submit any such claim addressed to the Joint Administrators Deirdre Cox, KPMG, Arlington Business Park, Theale, Reading, RG7 4SD.

Defective goods sold after the appointment of the Joint Administrators may be exchanged, provided that they are returned within 14 days of sale, together with the original receipt.

The Company will NOT in any circumstances refund or exchange unwanted goods.

I knew it, i just knew it! i should of took them back monday when i had the chance but the bloody cat was sick so took him the vets instead! suppose ill have to start that diet eventually then to fit into them!

I managed to exchange some highly inappropriate shoes bought by dd2 today. Had to be an exchange for same price or higher so I stocked up on undies and pyjamas for the dds. Obviously no use if you've got vouchers though and I can't see why they aren't honouring those.

The reason not to accept the vouchers is obvious, yes "the company" has got the money, but the company is no more, the adminstrators are now securing as much of the assets as they can. And the stock that they'd have to give out to the people with the vouchers are part of the assets they can make money on. Giving it to the voucher holders - the lowest most unsecured creditor there is - would be completely wrong, it should go to the creditors with more of a demand, such as preferential creditors like employees and their wages.

It would be illegal I think for a company in administration to accept them. I'm very surprised KateF managed to exchange goods that were simply unwanted, that should also not have happened.

You may be able to keep the vouchers and they'll be honoured as a courtesy if any sort of continuing peacocks business comes out of the administration.

Vouchers are a lousy gift, for this very reason - just give cash!
