and I'm here alone until tomorrow evening and have had a really rubbish day.

It's a monster and flying around like a maniac. WHAT DO I DO?? Shock I can't go in there!

Go in and open a window and then run out fast and shut the door. Or if crawling up and down a window and you are feeling brave and cruel- rolled up magazine and swat approach. Good luck!

Iggly · 19/01/2012 18:47

It might be a queen. So kill it so it doesn't make a nest.

Not sure it'll fly outside - too cold. I have no answers I'm afraid!

VivAldi · 19/01/2012 18:50

I WISH I could open my kitchen window! It is an extremely heavy sash window that I can't reach without climbing up onto the sink and heaving with both hands, thus exposing myself for far too long to the wasp.

I can't open the living room window either, it's just too heavy. One of the main reasons for my rubbish day is that the heating is broken. My house is clearly shit, maybe I will just move.

Get some fly spray (from corner shop maybe?) open the door and spray manically as much as you can, then run out and shut door.

2BoysTooLoud · 19/01/2012 18:51

Spray it with something [anything that might stun it?] and then kill it.

VivAldi · 19/01/2012 18:51

Clearly I won't be cooking tonight, so I am going to order a takeaway while I consider this problem.

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 19/01/2012 18:52

Grin I would probably move to avoid a wasp too!

Any strong manly neighbours?

heyannie · 19/01/2012 18:54

Go and find a can of Raid and suffocate it, then hoover it up. Ugh I hate wasps, what the hell are they doing being around in January?

VivAldi · 19/01/2012 18:54

Aah, I wouldn't ask a man to do it, that would just be mean. He might feel he had to just to save face!

A huge one flew out of my airing cupboard and up to a light bulb. Heart attack moment. Hope it didn't lay a bloody nest. I got vacumn cleaner out and used nozzle. Still haven't emptied the bag....

diabolo · 19/01/2012 18:58

Wait for it to land, put a glass over it. Slide a coaster or something similar between the glass and the surface the wasp is on. The wasp is trapped.

Go to your door, then open it. At arms length, remove the coaster from the bottom of the glass. Shake it about. Wasp is free. Not dead through no fault of its own.

You are empowered. Wine

griphook · 19/01/2012 18:58

oh we had a massive one the other day too, I sprayed hairspray, deoderant and dry shampoo on it untill it feel to thefloor and then I covered with a glass, untill someone braver came along.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/01/2012 19:00

We had a massive wasp in the house last night . My daughter screamed like a banshee pointed it out to me . It was on the lampshade on the landing light . DH and DS were out . I had to guard it while she ran to the bathroom and cleaned her teeth . Then we shut all the doors , and turned all the lights out except in the spare room . Clever eh ?
No , this morning it was still there , so I bravely hoovered it up .
Then changed the Hoover bag .

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 19/01/2012 19:03

Oh I feel sorry for you! I always feel sick at the thought that it's been tucked away in some corner of my house, only to suddenly wake up and spring out... UGH! Anyway, plan of action:

Open door a crack, identify location of monster, whip out a spray of anything (I find Dove deodorant works a treat) and bravely spray it until it drops. (WARNING - if you wuss out now it will get right back up, doubly angry.) Keep spraying until it's well and truly white with Dove.
Hoover up when heart stops racing!

NorksAreMessy · 19/01/2012 19:05

diabolo
exactly what I was about to say. It won't eat you!

now if it was a ZOMBIE in the kitchen, there could be a problem, but a little bug?!!?!?!?

VivAldi · 19/01/2012 19:06

Thank you diabolo, but do you know what's making me feel empowered right now? The huge fuck off can of wasp killer I just bought from the corner shop.

OP posts:
GirlWithPointyShoes · 19/01/2012 19:07

Oh please don't kill it... Blush

diabolo · 19/01/2012 19:08

I just don't understand why you would kill something that you could save instead?

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/01/2012 19:10

Don't worry, it won't be laying any eggs. Yet. It'll be a queen, hibernating and woken up because of the central heating.

You could try luring it out of the front door by turning off all lights in the house, putting the porch light ON, and then open kitchen door, quickly turn the light off in there, and DUCK! Grin

VivAldi · 19/01/2012 19:11

Because I am so scared of wasps that just looking at the picture of the wasp on the can gives me goosebumps? I know it's pathetic, but it's true. I don't kill anything else, I love nature!

OP posts:
GirlWithPointyShoes · 19/01/2012 19:13

There would be no tomatoes or oranges if there were no wasps... :(

VivAldi · 19/01/2012 19:13

Oh shit, butwhyisthegingone I just read your post. Now worried the spray didn't kill it (I just filled the room with spray, didn't stay long enough to look for wasp) and it is plotting its vengeance. Which would be fair enough, I admit.

OP posts:
diabolo · 19/01/2012 19:13

Norks I just watched Shaun of the Dead! I would hate to have a ZOMBIE in my kitchen. I admit, I'd probably kill it. Grin

marshmallowpies · 19/01/2012 19:14

Glass and a bit of paper, out the window. Unless you are allergic, (in which case stay well away), wasp stings really don't hurt that much.

NorksAreMessy · 19/01/2012 19:15
