to think applying make-up on the train is a bit bleurgh?

I hate the morning commute and I'm always stuck opposite the person who is applying make-up on the train. It really makes my teeth itch and I can't quite explain why. I wish I had a better word than "bleurgh" but I don't. I really dislike seeing it.

My friends inform me that they wish they had the skill to do make-up on the train because it saves time.

Perhaps I'm just a cranky bitch in the morning. Or jealous because I'd poke myself in the eye if I tried to put on eye liner on the train!

There are lots of things that people do in public that others wish we wouldn't as we think it's bad manners.

I personally don't like swearing, loud mobile conversations and anything which would normally be done in a bathroom (I include peeing and applying make-up or any sort of plucking).

Everyone has their list and it would be a looooooong one if we all got what we wanted.

Curtainmyself · 20/01/2012 06:43

It's as common as cat's muck.

Horrible.

What happened to pride??

Selks · 20/01/2012 06:59

Blimey. No wonder society is getting more stressed out if people are getting annoyed about trivia like this. Some people should save their mental energy for things that really matter.

I also don't like the wet hair smell or when women apply make-up on the tube. I can't explain why but it feels as though make-up should be applied in private, it's like they're still getting dressed in public or something. It also makes me feel awkward because I want to stare at them whilst they're doing it but can't so I kind of have to pretend not to look.

Capricorn76 · 20/01/2012 07:07

On the other hand I would gladly sit in a carriage full of people with wet hair applying make-up than see another guy spit on the street. Now that really makes my blood boil.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/01/2012 07:09

I feel ashamed now.
I touch up my make up everywhere and anywhere. I'm a slattern.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/01/2012 07:16

Doesnt bother me.

LowRegNumber · 20/01/2012 16:22

Gosh and who says women can't be haters of women! Hair dry, make up applied... Goodness me who made up all these rules? What about those people who want the best for their hair and skin but have to conform in the work place? I don't want to ruin my hair so some judgemental baggage eat in the train can be happy. I also want to spend time eating breakfast with ky kids rather than sitting upstairs doing make up! I would suggest all you women haters apply a paper bag to your own heads so you don't have to see other women make good use of their time. Honestly, putting lippy on being equated with eatingopen mouthed :s

racingheart · 20/01/2012 18:38

Rainbow Sorry. I misread.

EmilyStrange · 20/01/2012 18:58

What a really weird thing to bother someone. Why on earth should it bother you? Why would you care? Sometimes I think if you breathe you are probably offending someone.

OnlyANinja · 20/01/2012 19:11

YABU

If you look the other way you can't hear it or smell it - get a book and read it and the makeup-putter-onners won't bother you.

JanetPlanet · 20/01/2012 20:42

I saw a woman having a piss on a bus once. Now that was offensive. I don't get this 'wet hair smell' hang up. Surely if you've only just washed it, it smells of shampoo? Amazed that other women view women putting makeup on with wet hair as dirty and common, with no pride. Strange. Are you all over 50?

thenightsky · 20/01/2012 20:44

I wish I commuted on a train.... I could have an extra 15 mins in bed if I could the make-up thing on there.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/01/2012 21:27

Grin at the bus piss
