Here is a tutorial for the first cake. overdramaticpartygirl.blogspot.com/2010/07/sand-castle-cake-how-to-part-1.html

seeker · 15/01/2012 06:15

It depends what sort of cake it is, whether the figures are personalised hand made ones, whether the price includes delivery and how big it is.

If you're anywhere near Kent I'll quote you for the sandcastle one!

MumPotNoodle · 15/01/2012 10:01

that cake is amazing!!!! Mner, Wen, has a thread on chat at the moment about making/selling cakes....has some great photos on profile. There are definitely other cake makers/sellers on here, can't remember names though Blush.

breatheslowly · 15/01/2012 10:47

We had a croquembouche and it was fab.

TuesdayNightClub · 15/01/2012 10:53

You could show the picture to a few other cake makers and get some prices for comparison.

And profiteroles are actually the sweaty dangly bits of The Devil. I really can't stand them! A croquembouche looks good though.

lesley33 · 15/01/2012 10:56

I hate profiteroles as well!

Louplet · 15/01/2012 10:58

Why not make one yourself? DH and I make far more complicated birthday cakes for our DCs. That one doesn't look too hard to copy. Figures are easy to make with modelling chocolate.

MoreBeta · 15/01/2012 11:10

The thing is with all these fancy cakes, the cake itself is quite easy. Its the icing that is the hard bit. I always feel that cakes like this are more like painting a picture or sculpure than baking

FutureNannyOgg · 15/01/2012 11:19

The problem with cheap copy cakes, is often, they are a bit, dissapointing www.cakewrecks.com/home/2012/1/13/you-say-tomato-i-say-turnip.html Grin

canyou, I am in awe of your croquembouche prowess - that's amazing!

I also think that cake should be do-able by an amateur - it's not a complicated shape or anything. I thought, when I clicked on the clink, it was going to be one of those awesome choccywockydoodah ones.

SixFeetUnder · 15/01/2012 13:40

If you're in Central Scotland PM me and I'll quote you for it. I never make fruit cake though, only sponge. Or I can put you in touch with someone else who has been making cakes for fifty years, made my wedding cake and would give you a good price.

now thats a wedding cake

cece · 15/01/2012 14:09

I had an under the sea cake for my wedding. Dh proposed in an acquarium.

It was turquoise blue and had coral, colourful fish, an octopus around the sides and on top there were two seahorses.

I had real trouble finding a wedding cake person to do it the way I wanted. They all wanted to do it in pastel shaeds and pearlise it all. I wanted it in bringt colours and cartoony. In the end I found a young girl who did kids birthday cakes and she did it for me.

cece · 15/01/2012 14:12

On this sort of theme but not crooked.

More cartoony like and shaped more like this one

cece · 15/01/2012 14:16

Oh and my mum made the fruit cake x3 and the woman just decorated it. No where near £500 in cost.

TheSurgeonsMate · 15/01/2012 14:27

Can you find the thread recently started by the talented cakemaker who was looking to get started in the business?

diddl · 15/01/2012 14:27

Are they professionals?

Some look very like it´s someone who does it for a hobby.

OP-I like the second one that you linked to.

Would be tempted to have three different types of cake though!

MaureenMLove · 15/01/2012 15:07

I like your thinking for a beach themed cake, but tbh, you can find far better and I'm sure with the help of people on here, you could get one for much less than £500. I'm not sure that's got enough 'oomph' about it, iykwim!

(Don't ask me though, I'm not confident enough to have the responsibility of a wedding cake! Grin)

Anniegetyourgun · 15/01/2012 15:24

Gosh, some of those are almost worth getting married for.

I might save up for the 100-portion chocolate truffle cheesecake anyway, and call a few family round to eat it, with spoons. It might take a while.
