Car Park Chip Coins - A little bit Ewwww?

Our local car park has changed its Car park barriers, so now they dispense a yellow chip coin instead of a nice germ free piece of card.
I can see that this may be cheaper for them but every time I go I look over to the other barrier and see drivers put them straight into their mouth in order to complete the whole "window - barrier - quick drive off before the car behind you toots manouvre".
Which, with the card was fine but now I just have a image of these little coins sitting inside the dispenser festering away with the saliva of a thousand strangers all waiting to drop into my hand when I press the big green button.

AIBU or even a bit OCD?

Our car park does this, I had never even thought about germs.

Now I will be clutching my chip worrying someone has had in their mouth. Yuk

Panzee · 14/01/2012 16:17

I reckon mouths are cleaner than fingers.

HowlingBitch · 14/01/2012 16:18

Shock Isn't that how the plague originally started?

MrsChemist · 14/01/2012 16:18

Probably better than actual money. That's been everywhere

laughinggnome · 14/01/2012 16:22

Well I say its the saliva that bothers me but you also have to add all the finger action too - I just want the nice clean cardboard things back!

Don`t even get me started on money! lol

It is rather disgusting, but it's actually no worse than money. People do all sorts with that.

MrsKitty · 14/01/2012 16:37

Never actually thought about it before, and use a car park with these fairly regularly.

Now that you mention it... Eeeeeewwwww.

How do you feel about the faecal matter than is lurking on the green button? You know, from all the slatterns who don't wash their hands after the toilet.

laughinggnome · 14/01/2012 16:43

Oh Dear God Iodine - Im not sure Im going to be ever go there again.

  • Dons face mask and gloves ala M.Jackson -

Or has been to the toilet, not washed hands and then handled the chip coins Envy

happyhorse · 14/01/2012 17:07

What an odd thing to worry about. I hate to think how you manage in public toilets. I can't get worked up about germs - maybe I'm a dirty slattern.

Howling I don't think they had car parks at the time of the plague Wink

It's amazing we aren't all dead really. Hmm

laughinggnome · 14/01/2012 17:20

Thats the ridiculous thing - I would even eat peanuts out of a bowl on a pub bar after a few beers - I have no other OCD tendencies ( other than fried eggs not being placed next to baked beans on a plate but thats another story!)- but it`s just these yellow coins, they really worry me!

They have these at my local hospital. I get the coin out of the slot then almost put it in my mouth before I remember why I shouldn't Grin

I remember when I used to get the bus, I would go into the shop to renew my pass and they had a special sign reminding people not to put the passes in their mouths as the staff then had to handle them. It's got to be bad if they needed a special sign!!
