dh thinks that I was

Just been to tesco and they overcharged me 30p for a bag of arborio rice. I noised as I checked my receipt o the way out. I qued for 10 mins at the ustomer service desk to get my money back and to be fair they do give you double the refund if theyare wrong but I am sick of these constant small mistakes. I would love to know how much they make put of these pricing mistakes

Id not have noticed myself I guess it depends how anal you are about checking your receipt.

bagpuss · 13/01/2012 17:58

Dh checks our receipts for errors and has queued up for similar amounts before now. YANBU

Sirzy · 13/01/2012 18:00

Yanbu. They should learn to get the systems right!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 13/01/2012 18:03

Fabby, there is nothing 'anal' about checking your receipt Hmm

hellhasnofury · 13/01/2012 18:05

I'm extremely 'anal' about checking my receipts. The big supermarkets make enough profit a year without overcharging me. I would've queued too.

noddyholder · 13/01/2012 18:06

I couldn't be arsed tbh life is too short

sixlostmonkeys · 13/01/2012 18:09

I have started doing this all the time (Tesco and Morrisons are the worst)
I'd had enough of buying something because the shelf displayed an offer price only to find out later it went through at full price.
I'd guess the money I am 'claiming back' will be well in excess of £100 over the year (and £100 will more than pay for xmas) (I may just become anal enough to keep a tally) Grin

PS sorry for mentioning xmas :)

MyBestBauble · 13/01/2012 18:09

YANBU IMO, I never used to bother if it was less than £1 incorrect, but once I tried to keep track of how much they overcharged me in a month - now I always queue up to get it back if 10p or more! Petty, but to me it's a matter of principal [looser emoticon]

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 13/01/2012 18:09

YANBU. Sometimes I would, sometimes I wouldn't. Depends on what's going on that day - do I need the loo? do I have kids with me? can I be arsed?

But I do agree that these huge supermarkets make a fortune out of us and if everyone overlooked the odd penny here or there they would make even more.

Catsmamma · 13/01/2012 18:10

I check mine!

and i queue for MY money. MY money they have stolen!

...lucky old fabby to have money to burn! 3)

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 13/01/2012 18:13

I'm sure Tesco do this on purpose. It happens every time I go there (which is rarely these days). There other trick is to just not display a price at all for some things.
They do it hoping you won't check your receipt or be bothered to queue at customer services so good on you! YANBU!

SquidgyBiscuits · 13/01/2012 18:15

God yes, very unreasonable!!

10 minutes of my time spent in a queue is worth more than 30p!! I don't check my receipts either.

Toomuchpudding · 13/01/2012 18:23

I always check my receipts, Tesco overcharged me 3 quid once. Imagine all the 30 pences pinched over a year.

belgo · 13/01/2012 18:25

YANBU. They gave you a double refund?

I was really annoyed by H&M this week - they over charged me by 4 euros (about 3 pounds 50), I didn't notice until I got home, and had to make a trip into twon to get the refund - just the 4 euros, no double refund, and no apology either which really annoyed me.

ViviPru · 13/01/2012 18:25

What Squidgey said (but not particularly the v.unreasonable bit). When you charge a day rate, the value of 10 minutes of your time comes into sharp focus.

Dinosaurdrip · 13/01/2012 18:35

I dont generally check my receipt however, I went to morrisons the other day and our bill was massive but I put it down to buying loads of healthy stuff for our new year diet and things you don't buy on a monthly basis like spices and stock etc.

Well just on the off chance i decided to scan the receipt as dp said the cashier had put something through twice but then realised and refunded it. It just turns out she hadn't realised she had charged us £100 for 100 butternut squash (we only had 1) I seriously would have just carried on without realising and been £99 down so from now on I will thoroughly check every receipt.

starsandmars · 13/01/2012 18:42

yanbu - if they charged 1000 people 30p and nobody bothered querying it then it goes in their over bloated till.

Leave the bastards.

FlangelinaBallerina · 13/01/2012 18:42

Depends on how much you need 30p and how much it would bother you to lose it to Tesco. Perhaps you only have £1.33 to last til Tuesday, or you have potloads of cash but would be tormented by the thought of those bastards getting one over on you. This is all specific to you, so its impossible to assess whether you were BU without more information.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 13/01/2012 18:45

They always overcharge me .... Every single fucking time the arses. I complain each time as it adds up. Sometimes it is not much, sometimes it is a few quid. Sods. I am pleased to say that I have restricted my shopping trips to Tescos and was pleased to hear that their profits are down ... Yay!

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 13/01/2012 18:50

It's your money why shouldn't you have it.

Pancakeflipper · 13/01/2012 19:10

If you have the time - check and complain. I rarely check my receipt but I did one day and I had been overcharged by £1.85.

But there was the time I bought some wrapping paper and it cost 1p. The cashier couldn't stop laughing and told me to go and buy the other packets. I did for a grand total of 12p.

Boomerwang · 13/01/2012 19:16

It's illegal to have the incorrect price in front of the item, even if the label states the price for a completely different item. As for a missing label, that's a big no no. It's getting to the point where every other special offer has you running to a till to double check that it's real.

As for 30p... it all depends on the size of the queue and how much time I have or whether I can be bothered, but if I'm good for it then I WILL reclaim what is rightfully mine. They make enough money from you. I know that Tesco will get down on it's knees to please the big shoppers.

If you can take the faceless, blameless approach, you could write a complaint to head office and there's a good chance you'll be sent some vouchers by way of apology. It's not the same as cold hard cash or a real apology but if you're up for it...

COCKadoodledooo · 13/01/2012 19:24

YANBU. We had similar the other day (bought baby wipes on special offer, they went through at the regular price). We pointed out the error (but didn't have to queue) and they gave us back double.

I begrudge having to shop there in the first place, they're damn well not going to hang on to any more of my money!

Scholes34 · 13/01/2012 19:53

Anyone analysing my shopping, and I'm sure Tesco do through the Club Card, they'll see that I go for a lot of special offers, BOGOFs and the like. On a fair few occasions, I wouldn't buy that particular product were it not on offer, so I always check my receipt and would always queue up to rectify anything. Best time was when the six "three for £12" bottles of wine came up at full price. I got double my money back, so managed to buy a litre bottle of Bombay Sapphire for just 7p.

So, YANBU - it's the 30p, plus the sale in the first place.

somedayma · 13/01/2012 20:15

YABU. It's 60p. SIXTY PENCE. I'm sure 10 mins of your time is worth a lot more than that. Mine is
