Just been to tesco and they overcharged me 30p for a bag of arborio rice. I noised as I checked my receipt o the way out. I qued for 10 mins at the ustomer service desk to get my money back and to be fair they do give you double the refund if theyare wrong but I am sick of these constant small mistakes. I would love to know how much they make put of these pricing mistakes

oh I dunno somedayma, 60p can mean a lot to some people. It does to me. I'm so broke I have to rely on other people to donate baby things to us.

SquidgyBiscuits · 13/01/2012 20:51

It's not illegal to have the wrong price in front of an item.

The shop is offering you an item for sale at a price. That price can be changed at any time up until the deal is done and you have committed to buying the item by paying for it. It is at that point that the legal contract of sale is formed so to speak.

nomoreheels · 13/01/2012 21:20

At Asda they refund the amount owed & give you a £2 gift card. Good if it's a small error. :)

coraltoes · 13/01/2012 21:24

Waste of time. I'd not have checked the receipt tbh and def not waited ten mins for loose change. Life is too short.

troisgarcons · 13/01/2012 21:29

queue

kittensmakemesqueee · 13/01/2012 21:30

YANBU if you have time. ASDA used to give you a 2 pound card if they fucked up which makes it worth it..

kunahero · 13/01/2012 21:31

my dw would happily camp over night just to get 10p back if over charged!

Whatmeworry · 13/01/2012 21:34

Depends on how much you value your time, I wouldn't bother for 30p

Ginger4justice · 13/01/2012 21:39

Ok maybe I'm being completely stupid here but how can you even check your reciept to that level of detail? Do you remember the exact price from the shelf of every item you buy? I check they haven't put something through twice and the offers have worked but I wouldn't have a clue exactly how much anything in my trolley was. But then I'm pretty laid back about most things DH would call it careless.

reindeersledder · 13/01/2012 21:43

YANBU at all.

They've made a mistake and taken more of your money than you were happy to part with.

I also estimate I save a fair few £££s this way over the year - there's barely a month goes by where I haven't spotted at least a couple of mistakes.

And since Asda and Sainsburys both do a voucher reward for claiming the mistake, that 1p overcharge at Sainsbury's own brand bread is actually worth £5.01

So... definitely worth it. Imagine if they got an extra 30p from even 1/100ths of their customers!

RainboweBrite · 13/01/2012 21:43

You did the right thing. I would have done the same. Actually, I would have still done it for 10p, but maybe drawn the line there.

reindeersledder · 13/01/2012 21:43

Do you remember the exact price from the shelf of every item you buy?

In my case, yes.

startail · 13/01/2012 21:52

Reindeer life is too short and my shopping list is too long.

Now ToysRus turning £7 into £70 I did notice, but they truly are twunts!

reindeersledder · 13/01/2012 21:56

Yes, but I can't help but feel that the people sneering and saying "life's too short" and "my time is more important than that 30p" have never thought how patronising it can be saying that to a group of women who e.g. are having to feed a family of four on £20 a week.

Yes, everyone's time is important. But needs must. It's hardly fucking fun to stand in a queue for 10 minutes to wait on your 30p, is it? (And your additional £2 sorry voucher from Asda, or your £5 sorry token from Sainsburys.)

There are only three kinds of people that will mostly queue up about that 30p - the tight, the genuinely hard up, and the principled. The middle group isn't one to be sneered at, IMHO.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 13/01/2012 22:13

Do Sainsbury's seriously give you £5 back if they overcharge you? I am going to check my receipt a bit more thoroughly from now on...!

reindeersledder · 13/01/2012 22:16

Yes, BoulevardOfBrokenSleep - store policy (at least was still in place the last time I went there - we normally only go there to stock up on specific Sainsburys stuff or if it works out cheaper on my supermarket's calculations, every couple of months).

And the £2 from Asda is store policy too.

Query it with a supervisor if you're told otherwise at the CSD. If you fail to get anywhere, photocopy your receipt with the price details and date on, explain the situation in a short letter, and await your £10 token and apology letter in the post (I've done this once, at my local Asda, when the woman on the desk swore blind she'd never heard of giving out the vouchers because of mistakes... oh well, my gain!)

MrsHarryPearce · 13/01/2012 22:17

YANBU. It is the principal and all those 30pences add up. I think tescos are quite good about correctly labelling things on the shelf but you have to check their pricing really closely. Often multipack or larger size packs are actually more expensive than the smaller or single packs.

cardibach · 13/01/2012 22:19

Dinosaurdrip your shopping was over by £99 and you put it down to healthy food? I'm completely a bit useless about checking my receipt, but I'd notice that!

lurkerspeaks · 13/01/2012 23:58

I can easily afford 30p but I'd still queue.

I hate being overcharged! I also write numerous letters of complaint.

RaPaPaPumPumBootyMum · 14/01/2012 00:19

I used to queue at sainsburys every time I was overcharged but got fed up with waiting 10 minutes for some sour faced bint acting like they were doing me a favour by giving me back my pound or whatever. They certainly never gave me a voucher or £5...

However now I bypass all that nonsense and just email customer services on the Sainsburys website stating my case and they refund my overcharged amount plus usually put £5 in points on my nectar card.

So no queuing and £5 for minimal hassle.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 14/01/2012 00:20

Our Asda doesn't do the £2 refund card; I end up being overcharged every time I go in there on something or other.

AnnoyingOrange · 14/01/2012 10:24

No way would I queue for 10 minutes for 30p

belgo · 14/01/2012 10:34

Annoyingorange that is what the supermarkets hope. But you add up all those 30p (and more; I was overcharged 4euros) for thousands of customers and they are stealing a huge amount of money from trusting customers.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/01/2012 11:20

I wish i'd said something to ASDA the other day, I did my shopping list online (checking prices) and then went into store.
2 chicken fillets with skin cost £2.40 online yet they were £3.50 instore.
I should of said soething but couldnt be arsed!
