AIBU for expecting her not to pay with vouchers at a restaurant?

I'm meeting my friend the first weekend in February again. I haven't seen her for nearly three years as she was working abroad. We decided to go out for dinner and I ask her where she wants to go. She proposed an Italian restaurant because she can get vouchers on the internet for it. I feel slightly embarrassed by this but haven't said anything. Is it right to pay in a restaurant with a 50% voucher? She can easily afford it.

AIBU?

who in their right mind would pay full price for something when they can get it for half price? YABvvvvU - get a grip woman!

WorraLiberty · 11/01/2012 20:03

Of course it's right. If the restaurant didn't want people to use them, they wouldn't put them on the internet would they?

Not only that, but if they can afford to take a 50% loss, they're charging too much to begin with.

mishtake · 11/01/2012 20:03

YABU
Why on earth are you embarrassed?
Money off of anything is always good news!

MmmPercyPigs · 11/01/2012 20:04

YABU! What is the problem?

PandaG · 11/01/2012 20:04

I would always check to see if I could get a money off voucher before eating out. If the vouchers are available, the restaurants must be wanting you to use them. Look at it this way, if the voucher entices you to eat in a certain place the restaurant gets your money albeit less than the full price, whereas they wouldn't have got anything if you hadn't chosen to eat there in the first place.

YABU imo (and I've never posted that before!)

YABVU

NinkyNonker · 11/01/2012 20:05

I hate paying full price for anything, even though we're not short of money. Yabu.

BrianButterfield · 11/01/2012 20:05

I feel put out when I can't use a voucher! The restaurant had them made to attract custom - they don't mind people using them (especially as usually it's only food/main courses that are reduced, and you pay full price for drinks, side orders and desserts which are very profitable for them) and it gets people sitting in what would otherwise be an empty and unappealing establishment.

Gapants · 11/01/2012 20:05

seriously? YABU and are coming across to me as a terrific snob!

Pascha · 11/01/2012 20:06

haha I'm always the embarrassing woman offering the use of my phone to download the voucher codes for the table next door.

mumblechum1 · 11/01/2012 20:06

YABU. My mate and I go for a pissup ladylike dinner in Zizzi once a month and we've never paid full price yet.

Catsdontcare · 11/01/2012 20:06

Good grief

pantspantspants · 11/01/2012 20:06

Yabu, why should she pay more. If its Ask I know lots of people that do it (including me) and see it in Ask all the time. Pizza express also.

SiamoNellaMerda · 11/01/2012 20:06

If you're really mortified by the idea how about you pay full price for both of you? Everyone's a winner. Oh, except you because you could have got 50% off!

IWantMyHatBack · 11/01/2012 20:06

Of course it is fine, you mad woman. There was a big thread about this recently where the OP had been with a group and paid with a voucher, and people got narky about her not putting the voucher into the 'pot' before divvying up the bill. Bloody ridiculous IMO - it's not like it's monopoly money fgs.

Hmm
CharminglyOdd · 11/01/2012 20:06

YABtotallyU - what's embarrassing about paying with a voucher?

ShatnersBassoon · 11/01/2012 20:07

Eh? Is it OK to pay with vouchers in a restaurant that issues vouchers?

The menu price is twice what it should be so they can take vouchers and make people think they're getting a deal. The staff would laugh at you more if you didn't use a voucher.

smokinaces · 11/01/2012 20:08

YABU. If the voucher is there, use it! Spend the difference on an extra bottle of wine!

upahill · 11/01/2012 20:08

Yes you are!!!

Nagoo · 11/01/2012 20:09

Another YABU.

you are a bit weird about this. Justify yourself immediately Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 11/01/2012 20:09

Are you being serious? Confused

IWantMyHatBack · 11/01/2012 20:09

I've used (shock horror!) Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for my whole meal several times. I don't feel embarrased at all.. I do feel a little smug though.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 11/01/2012 20:10

I can afford lots of nice things... But doesn't stop me looking for/using vouchers!
In fact I love the phrase 'look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves' and apply it in lots of areas of my life.

Gay40 · 11/01/2012 20:11

Get those vouchers used. Spend what you save on alcohol Grin
