To ask posters who are not in the UK

To say so in their OP?

At least 3 threads I've read today posters have been given excellent advice and then come back to say '"Oh I'm not in the UK. It's different here."

FFS.

OP posts:
empirestateofmind · 11/01/2012 12:13

Also not in the UK.

I don't want to mention in each and every post though. I think I do mention it when it's relevant.

laurenamium · 11/01/2012 12:53

In the uk

Incredibly Envy of those in Australia!

Greythorne · 11/01/2012 13:02

Anyway, I thought I was such a prolific poster tha everyone knows me and knows I am not in the UK by now
:)

LinzerTorte · 11/01/2012 13:40

I do remember you now Greystone and am sure I've seen you post before that you're in France, but I don't think I really "clocked" your name when I read the OP - I was just too Shock that that kind of thing goes on in the UK too (as I thought). Smile

I know that no one knows me (apart from on a few long-running threads) but I suppose I could be identified as being outside the UK (or even in a German-speaking country) by my name. I definitely wouldn't rely on it, though, as I know a lot of people don't look at posters' names very carefully. Wink

Tee2072 · 11/01/2012 13:43

Yeah, I almost never look at posters' names unless something sounds familiar or something. So I've probably read a million things by you Greystone and don't remember that I did!

OP posts:
lettersandcommas · 11/01/2012 13:46

Or maybe there could be a baguette, a pizza, or some such relevant smiley?/as applicable?
[helpful]

Thumbwitch · 11/01/2012 14:06

hat with corks, maybe?

Greythorne - I know your name and have seen your posts but wouldn't have remembered you were in France, to be fair. I generally tend to remember the people-outside-the-UK if I associate their posts with something to do with being outside the UK but not in your case Blush

Francagoestohollywood · 11/01/2012 14:10

I often mention that I am not in the UK.
And btw I don't go posting legal advise, or advise on benefits etc, as... I am not in the UK.

Greythorne · 11/01/2012 14:15

:)
Was only joking!
Don't expect people to have photographic memory of all UK and nonUK posters!

SaraBellumHertz · 11/01/2012 14:19

tee I prefer not to put my location on every post because I feel it makes me quite identifiable.

I often post my profession as it is relevant on certain advice threads, I often post the ages of my DC as that can be relevant and i post on the loss of my DC3 etc etc.

As long as I am considered to be the in the UK I feel one of many, but if I post the above with a location then I feel very identifiable. despite several name changes I realise I am still if someone was to do an advanced search but what I want to avoid is it all being there on the one page.

LinzerTorte · 11/01/2012 14:22

Ooh, I do like that idea - a customised smiley according to the country you're in. I'll have a coffee and cake one, please. Smile

I do actually have quite a good memory for names, but need to actually look at them. Grin

lettersandcommas · 11/01/2012 14:33

a barbie for the Aussies?

Psammead · 11/01/2012 14:36

I hate saying I am not in the UK. I sound like a broken record and I picture people rolling their eyes every time I say it.

So, YABU.

Psammead · 11/01/2012 14:36

A beer for the krauts.

Tee2072 · 11/01/2012 14:38

I haven't said you need to say it every time. But if it's information that's necessary? Say it! And not 100 posts in!

OP posts:
CakeMixture · 11/01/2012 14:40

I agree with you op.
As MN is full of accronyms and expression particular to MN I propse that all overseas peeps. henceforth do not say (not in uk) but instead preface or end their posts with

So much more stylish and in keeping with MN style......

SaraBellumHertz · 11/01/2012 14:42

But most of the time it is NOT necessary if the posters stick to answering what they have been asked eg Q what do you think about leaving a child alone? A. very dangerous I wouldn't do it, instead of providing an answer encompassing what they would do eg phone ss.

I have no problem with posts moving beyond the OP but the OP can hardly be expected to include enough information to cover every possible outcome.

LinzerTorte · 11/01/2012 14:49

I need Chaos to follow me about really, as she always calls me furrin whenever I post on a thread. That would let everyone know. Grin

Kladdkaka · 11/01/2012 14:51

(not in the UK)

My name is Swedish. My profile says I live in Sweden. My pics even include photos of my very Swedish house (and my Swedish gardeners Wink). I mention it at every available opportunity. I've had entire threads based solely on me being in Sweden.

For the love of the flying spaghetti monster, what more do you want me to do?:o

Tee2072 · 11/01/2012 14:55

Kladdkaka? Are you in Sweden? Grin

OP posts:
Kladdkaka · 11/01/2012 14:57

Just a bit north-west of Blackpool really.

Kladdkaka · 11/01/2012 14:58

or north-east even. (Shows why I failed geography GCSE)

NorksAkimbo · 11/01/2012 16:01

I might be really screwed...
I'm in the UK, but I'm American...do I have to declare both?? Grin

momnipotent · 11/01/2012 16:04

Nice gardeners, Kladdkaka. :)
