Got upset about DH taking 20min to take leaves off thymes

I couldn't help but got upset when I came down from bf DD to bed, and found DH still taking leaves off the bunch of thymes. I was starving, and honestly thought he'd finish prepping the jerk sauce from Jamie's 30min meals! It involves only banging everything into a food processor. To make it worse, he left out 3 spices from the sauce and so we ended up with something really dreadful for dinner.

Why are some man so useless at following a recipe? He told me he need to learn it so he will remember how to pull leaves off thymes (I showed him), and not to forget the spices. But problem is, I hate repeating the same food day in day out.

I know I'm being unreasonable because he's at least keen. But I can't help but think isn't Jamie's 30min supposed to be easy? I wasn't even making the full meal.

Bish bash bosh. Pukka. Good Thymes Grin

Yanbu to be starving when BF though.

BagofHolly · 05/01/2012 20:48

He reminds me of my uncle. He was decorating my gran's kitchen with "tiling on a roll" which was all the rage because it was so much QUICKER than actual tiles. Unless you cut them out, individually.Grin

are you serious??

OneLittleBabyGirl · 05/01/2012 20:52

Yes sadly. He was picking them off the stalk. BagofHolly that makes me laugh.

I think you should be glad your dh is feeding you something g that is edible. I guess you know you were ur or you wouldn't have posted. Totally get being upset when hungry and bf though i do it too. Yesterday ate my pudding whilst making dinner because I was so hungry.

Auntiestablishment · 05/01/2012 20:55

Don't you just run your fingers up the stalk and they all come off in your hand? like grass That's how I do it. Takes seconds.

dexter73 · 05/01/2012 20:56

I thought Jamies 30 min meals were renowned for taking ages to cook?!

thisisyesterday · 05/01/2012 20:58

so, you got really upset because he took too long taking some leaves off the thyme?

and then your dinner was "really dreadful" just because he left 3 spices out?

if he doesn't normally cook then he isn't going to suddenly be brilliant and fast at it just because you want him to.

Dozer · 05/01/2012 21:01

Jamies 30 mins are mayhem, requiring use of about 53 pans and kitchen items, thus taking many, many minutes to clear up. Grrrr.

Poor, earnest, thyme-stripper DH!

bringmesunshine2009 · 05/01/2012 21:03

YABSU if this is DHs worst crime, send him to my house!

MsPrufrock · 05/01/2012 21:04

YANBU. H and I have come to the brink of divorce many times over how long it takes him to take the leaves off a bunch of parsley to make Nigella's mushroom linguine. :)

blackoutthexmaslights · 05/01/2012 21:05

well it takes me at least an hour to do one of those meals

tasmaniandevilchaser · 05/01/2012 21:09

ah bless you, bf and hungry, I remember it well. My DH would be the same, bless him too. I'm more of a bish bash bosh cook, can't bear any faff, so I find it a tad frustrating when he takes ages to do anything and also uses every board, pan, utensil in the kitchen. But if that's their worst crime, then we are very lucky women.

OneLittleBabyGirl · 05/01/2012 21:11

MsPrufrock actually DH likes to pinch each piece of leave off coriander or parsley, when a recipe asked for chopped leaves. I keep explaining to him it's ok to just cut the whole bunch.

And yes those Jamie meals are mayhem. But we were just making the jerk sauce, and bang the chicken with the sauce into the oven. We ate it with a bag of salad and plain rice (from a rice cooker). I think I didn't expect him to be picking leaves for the whole bedtime routine ...

Maybe he wasn't picking off the leaves.

Do you have an X-Box?

YABU. If you leave dinner in his hands, then let him do it. YANBU to be bloody starving all the time while bf - open a bag of crisps / peanuts and have a glass of wine and a munch while he faffs with dinner prep in the future.

TeriyakiWoo · 05/01/2012 21:26

You can get those tubes of herbs, kind of like a paste. Can't remember what they're called but they sell them in most supermarkets. Totally lazy I know but they taste just the same and saves on arguments!

thefroggy · 05/01/2012 21:44

Leave the bastard. Grin
