To think I will never master the 30 day shred?

Oh my goooooooooooooooodddddd.

I just did my first shred and my legs have died. They are a quivering wreck. And I didn't even do it 100%, I physically could not get my heels anywhere near the backs of my thighs for those hop things... Too much fat in the way :(

Please say you were like me on day one and by day 30 looked just like jillian. Please?

Apologies in advance if I am not here to reply straight away, dd is such an obstacle to mn :)

I never id look like Gillian but I occasionally let her kick my ass on the third level! I did become quite comfortable with level two and it s amazing how fast your body changes if do it daily. Good luck with it! Maybe after I have this baby I will try again. I love how it is over is 30 minutes!

actiongirl1978 · 05/01/2012 08:08

I have just completed day 4 - the last time I tried it I got to day 9, so i am hoping now the children are older (and therefore allow me to do my exercise before they wake up) I will make it to day 30.

I have found both times that the first 6 mins is the hardest by far - once I warm up I am ok, but I struggle with the arm raises.

My biggest struggle is the pelvic floor area after 2dcs have left it slightly wrecked!

I do feel better for it though, although knackered every night! I am combining it with weightwatchers - I want to lose half a stone by the end of the month which is very doable as I have a good track record with WW.

I would say keep it up. There are lots of threads on the weight loss chat on here about 30ds and so you will get lots of virtual moral support.

And think how good you will feel the end of the month if you manage to complete it!!

worldgonecrazy · 05/01/2012 08:11

The good thing about the shred is that just when you feel like giving it up, you'll catch sight of yourself in the mirror and notice a curve where there wasn't one before.

Stick with it. I find getting up earlier and doing it first thing makes me feel much more energised for the whole day.

SantasENormaSnob · 05/01/2012 08:11

I thought my ankles were going to snap on day 16.

Maybe I should start again to shift some of the post Xmas turkey fat.

Trills · 05/01/2012 08:59

YABU to think you will never be able to do anything that you have only tried once.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 05/01/2012 09:22

Keep going it definitely gets easier!! Do more steretches than she does though otherwise by day three you won't be able to walk...... Im on level 3 have been doing it at least five times a week for about a month and my body looks so much better, it definitely works!Grin

DharmaCeutical · 05/01/2012 09:28

YABU. The feeling after about a week when you smugly remember how hard you found day one and how much you've improved is slightly marvellous.

Carry on, knees up knees up.

orangina · 05/01/2012 09:40

The first day is the PITS. Keep going though. I am about to start it again after a LONG gap (and quite a few kg put on in the meantime......)....

Seabright · 05/01/2012 09:46

I'm thinking of getting this, but can you answer some questions for me first?

  1. Do I need to buy weights?
  2. I'm a size 16 at the moment, is that too big to do it?
lollipoppet · 05/01/2012 09:57

Thanks for all the "keep going" comments! I will keep doing and hopefully make progress. I just can't see a day when I will be able to do level one with ease, I am so crap!
actiongirl I'm combining with weigh watchers too so hopefully will see good results. Going to get out on my bike too when this wind calms down.

geraldine I thought she didn't do much stretching. I will take your advice and do some more, I already feel that by this afternoon I will be sliding down the stairs on my bum...

seabright yes, they do use little dumbells but I didn't realise this and didn't have any this morning so just did it without (and was still crap!) but I was pleased that I still did it rather than using that as an excuse not to, which I normally would. And no, size 16 not too big IMO as I am size 18 so if I can kindof-- do it, so can you! I did actually disgust myself entirely when doing the jumping jacks and heard a slapping noise- repulsive Blush

Fleurdebleurgh · 05/01/2012 09:58

You need weights for bits of it, i used tinned food until i got some proper ones. Ive been doing it since i was a size 18, its been hard (and you need a damn good bra for the star jumps) but doable.

DharmaCeutical · 05/01/2012 09:59

seabright - I was a 16 and used two multipack tins of tuna instead of weights.

Wait until the aches kick in then you will really want to quit! They do wear off after a few days, says she who still aches after starting Ripped in 30 on sunday.
I started shredding at the start of 2010 and love all of her workouts. I find they pack a massive punch in a short space of time which is a must when you have kids or are an excersise phobe like I was. I have moved onto the newer dvds but will go back to shred at some point as I find it a comfortable workout now.
I would drop inches easier than weight doing the shred but as I could fit into my clothes better I started not to care. Level 2 is quite hard so make sure you watch it fully first and stay on level 1 untill you are happy to move on, there is no issue with level 3 and I find it goes far quicker than the other two even though they are the same length.
I only stopped after a bout of depression sapped me of all energy and have only just got back into her workouts.

DottyDot · 05/01/2012 10:01

Awww - keep going! I used to do it ages ago, fell off the wagon but am now back on track and did day 2 last night - it's bloody hard work..... But it does work almost immediately I think - I feel different already.

I'm rubbish at the press ups, which is a bit depressing as they're the first thing, but I kind of do them in my way Blush and I find the jump rope jumping really hard - much harder than jumping jacks. Sometimes I jog for a few seconds just to keep going Blush

But it's better than doing nothing and after a few days (from hazy memory) it does start to feel less impossible Grin

WhatstheScenario · 05/01/2012 10:01

When I started doing it in March last year I was reathess, my muscles ached and shook - it was horrendous. I stayed on Level 1 for 6 weeks Shock, but it has got easier and I can do it 4 or 5 times a week now with little effort, yet it keeps me trim.

Stick with it!

worldgonecrazy · 05/01/2012 10:02

I've been looking at the ripped in 30 DVD.

mcpie do you think it is worth getting? What is the difference between that and the shred?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/01/2012 10:07

Last month I started this and nearly died after first couple of days, by day 5 I was fine. Started level two then bought proper hand weights- goodness me. I had to go back to level one and start again! I advise anyone using tinned food to treat that as warm up time as with proper weights it is so much harder. But at the same time I wasn't getting results as quickly as I expected so although the. Cardio was effective, I obviously wasn't developing muscle tone really. Am planning to start again next week at level one, I hope that two weeks of laziness and booze hasn't destroyed every last bit of fitness I built up :(

McPie · 05/01/2012 10:10

Its very similar to the shred but is 4 workouts not 3. There is a lot more strength worked into the cardio, kind of like level 3 shred. I would say that if you liked shred you will like ripped. I got mine with Killer buns and thighs from Amazon for £15 and thats a good workout too, the killer part is right and I had to sit for a bit after the warm up!

thenightsky · 05/01/2012 10:14

Am I the only person who cannot do a single press up at all? Sad

DottyDot · 05/01/2012 10:22

I can only half do them (sort of) the Anita way - with crossed legs at the knee iyswim. And even then I'm fairly sure I'm not doing it right...

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/01/2012 10:23

I haven't tried doing them properly. I can sort of do the walking press up but in level one I still do the Anita ones.

maddywest · 05/01/2012 10:23

no thenightsky I can't do press ups either, every now and then I get someone to show me the correct position, but it always seems that I was in the correct position all along and still can't do them!
I did the shred last January and for a couple of months afterwards (never quite getting the hang of press ups) then stopped. Just started at level 1 again last night for the new year push. I really liked that it only takes 30 mins, I did get a bit bored with doing it every day though.

southeastastra · 05/01/2012 10:24

i have done it for two three month stretches (ie level 1 10 days, level 2 ten days level 3 ten days) and the worse thing is that it always kills my knees! if it wasn't for that i would continue it, but it takes so long for them to recover :(

lollipoppet · 05/01/2012 10:26

dotty I hate the jumping! I jog on the spot too (she says after one day!)

nightsky are you doing the easy ones with your knees on the floor?

OP posts:
worldgonecrazy · 05/01/2012 10:37

southeastastra I also found my knees hurt too much so I stopped doing any lunges with movement and it became a lot easier. I substitute exercises, so for the jumping lunge in level 3, I do the military press and leg extension from level 2. I know she says just do the movement less if your knees hurt, but I end up crippled and I'm pretty sure knees shouldn't make such loud cracking noises.

I found press ups gradually got easier and easier. I started off doing little more than bending the elbows about 1cm, now I can do a half press up. Press ups are really good for building core strength.
