To think I will never master the 30 day shred?

lollipoppet · 05/01/2012 07:18

Oh my goooooooooooooooodddddd.

I just did my first shred and my legs have died. They are a quivering wreck. And I didn't even do it 100%, I physically could not get my heels anywhere near the backs of my thighs for those hop things... Too much fat in the way :(

Please say you were like me on day one and by day 30 looked just like jillian. Please?

Apologies in advance if I am not here to reply straight away, dd is such an obstacle to mn :)

I'm just about to order this on Amazon. I'm totally unfit and haven't exercised in four years - is this going to kill me? Am I mad to do something so intense after so long?!

What size weights should a totally unfit person buy?

DottyDot · 05/01/2012 14:08

Yes it will kill you - or rather you'll want to die at about 15 minutes in Grin I'm totally unfit and manage to survive though, so you'll be OK!

I've got 1kg weights and they're plenty heavy enough, but others have mentioned 2kg weights

Doozie · 05/01/2012 14:13

Thanks Dotty, I will start light me thinks...

thefurryone · 05/01/2012 14:25

I'm starting tomorrow (the real one, rather than the one that never comes). I've done it once before but as DS wouldn't nap I never got further than day 3. What I liked was that just when you think you're about to die you realise you're on the last circuit. Really really hoping for some good results.

Good luck OP!

Lambzig · 05/01/2012 14:42

do you have to do it every day? cannot see how I can combine it with working days (DH is away in the week at the moment) unless I get up at 5 and have never had the motivation to do that in my life.

DottyDot · 05/01/2012 14:47

You're supposed to do it every other day... I'm aiming for every other day - like everything in life, you have to be realistic Grin

I've figured that the best time for me to do it is when I've just put ds's to bed - before I hit the settee and don't move again until bedtime Hmm. It's much better to literally come downstairs and put the DVD straight on before I get comfy - and it's only 30 mins so I still have time to veg out relax.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2012 14:48

I remember when I started this I couldn't sit down on the loo without my thighs screaming in pain. I can blast through it now. Haven't lost any weight though.

DottyDot · 05/01/2012 14:48

oops - I meant supposed to do it every day - it's so un-thinkable I can't even type it Grin

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/01/2012 15:06

That's what I do dottydot while DH cooks me dinner :)

housemum · 05/01/2012 15:51

dottydot Argos have sets of 3 weights for a reasonable price - Davina ones are 0.68kg, 1.13kg and 2.27kg for £10 (reviews say the small ones are a bit too small), I'm getting the £15 Pro Fitness set which has 1kg, 1.5kg and 2kg.

This thread has inspired me to try again - I bought the DVD last Christmas (2010) to start in the New Year, got flu, lost the inspiration, and it's been gathering dust at the back of the DVD drawer since!!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/01/2012 15:55

Omg no wonder I can't do it, my weights are 4kg! What a numpty.

DottyDot · 05/01/2012 15:59

GOOD GOD! I'm amazed impressed you can pick them up! Grin

Spooklegeek · 05/01/2012 16:39

Hahahaha at 4 kg weights! The thought of it! I 'shredded' today for the first time & really enjoyed it. I didn't find it too bad but I am already pretty fit I guess as I run/gym 5 days a week - I can only imagine the pain if you are going into the 30 DS from no exercise! Still had to do the easy press-ups though, I must have really crap upper body strength as I have never been able to do a proper one.

Will probably be eating my words when I move up to level 2 next week...but it's reassuring to read so many people on here say that you do get used to it & progress really quickly.

Oh yes - for the jumping jacks, skipping rope ones etc I did them on my mat in an attempt to lessen the impact on my knees from the wooden floor - may help anyone else with dodgy knees. And I wore my super-duper proper running shoes :)

SantieMaggie · 05/01/2012 17:44

I do zumba 2 or 3 times a week so am hoping this is going to help me get fitter and tone up too!

lollipoppet · 05/01/2012 18:14

Good lord, 4kg!? I can barely lift my own arms.

Good luck to everyone starting or doing, if you are on level three I am properly inspired by you.

I am hoping to start couch to 5k as well, my fitness level is truly poor but I need to buy better trainers and wait for the winds to calm! (what I'd really like is to lose a stone overnight and then I can start with a bit less weight to carry, unfortunately thy won't happen :( )

OP posts:
Pixel · 05/01/2012 18:42

I did it last year, gave up at Christmas and never got started again. I did find it made me feel fitter very quickly but I got a bit bored. I'm just trying to get up the courage to start it again as I know I won't be able to walk for the first three days!
One tip:- if you have an evil cat make sure it isn't in the room with you. Mine would lie underneath me while I attempted press-ups, leap on my hands with outstretched claws whenever I had to lie on the mat, and made sure he tripped me up at every opportunity. It was cute the first time...

Spooklegeek · 05/01/2012 19:00

Pixel, my pug who has to come everywhere with me (shower, loo, etc) also Shredded today :)

Incidentally, has anyone else laughed out loud at the claim on the DVD box that 'you could lose 20lbs in 30 days' ???!!!

cornsilxkskiy · 05/01/2012 19:01

I am sooooooo bored of it now.

InExcelsisDeo · 05/01/2012 19:40

I would do the warm up twice and cool down for longer and that made a big difference to achiness afterwards.

You will be surprised at how much easier it becomes by the end of the first week.

I became bored and now do it with the sound muted and listen to audiobooks/radio/ my own music instead.

Does work, in terms of feeling and looking better and becomes self-reinforcing once you are on a roll.

SP0104 · 05/01/2012 19:55

I've also bought this DVD, after reading the threads on here.
I'm just waiting for its arrival.
I'm planning on doing it along with the Clean and Lean diet ( I lost half a stone last time I tried this diet)
I'm hoping to loose 2 stone and be a size 10 again !!
Heres hoping

EggInABap · 05/01/2012 20:17

I am interested in starting this too. Do you need an exercise mat as well as weights?

EttiKetti · 05/01/2012 20:22

Marking place as think I might start tomorrow.....30 days to swimwear holiday Shock

cornsilxkskiy · 05/01/2012 20:47

good idea to do it with the sound down...thanks will try that tomorrow Smile
