To look forward to people falling off the new year fitness wagon?

Everyone getting started on new year's resolutions mean the gym/pool is absolutely packed. Far too busy to be worthwhile. Aibu to look forward to February when 90% will have given up already so I have some space?

Smug much?

Onesunnymorningin2012 · 02/01/2012 22:43

YABU and unpleasant.

FetchezLaVache · 02/01/2012 22:44

Smug maybe, but I felt exactly the same back in my gym bunny days. Make room on the smug bench for me, tyler!

YonderRevoltingPeasantWhoIsHe · 02/01/2012 22:45

Gawd yes, January is hell with the gym full of middle-aged men whose wives have bought them gift memberships standing around like confused buffalo and pawing nervously at the treadmill whilst not-so-subtly letching at the 22yos in Sweaty Betty.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/01/2012 22:46

YABU

You should feel grateful to all those people who pay all year and only go in January and for a few weeks before their holiday, because they are subsiding your costs.

Why not wish them well instead? Why not start the year off on a positive note - both for you and them?

YABU but very true.

slavetofilofax · 02/01/2012 22:51

YANBU.

tyler80 · 02/01/2012 22:53

Council leisure centre so not sure it works on the same funding model as gyms (lure people in and make it impossible very difficult to cancel)

It'd be lovely if they stayed because more people long term equals more sessions provided. More people in January only equals silly overcrowding

I think it's nice, all those happy, optimistic faces with the same hopeful thoughts. I can see it's irritating for regulars, but you know it won't last long.

(I had my own six weeks of gym last year, then sloped off)

dustlandfairytale · 02/01/2012 23:32

YANBU. With luck it will all end before the end of January if the weather gets bad! I got a letter today saying my sub has gone up £3 a month. Could be worse I suppose without these "Christmas Voucher" newbies :)

YonderRevoltingPeasantWhoIsHe · 02/01/2012 23:33

Don't slope off mothie .... staaaaay and become One Of Us...

runningwilde · 02/01/2012 23:50

Nasty, pointless, smug thread

Bit pathetic too

mothmagnet · 02/01/2012 23:50

Nooo Yonder! I must resist... I now have my free gym at home - fitness DVD and hoovering.

I live in a quite affluent town but went to the budget gym, so no Sweaty Betty or even lycra. There was a bloke who was there every day on the exercise bike in what looked like jeans and a t shirt.
