and most importantly is there anything legal that I can be done for if I do it.

Tried to play football today at local park/recreation ground (which has football pitches marked out on it) and it was dodge the poo. Had to come home because the ball got poo on it .

Our local regional country park has been doing this as a trial - spraying all dog poo in a 250 yard path bright pink (using biodegradable paint). Really highlights the problem. First day they sprayed over 130 poos!! by 2 weeks it was 1 or 2 a day if that....

I really think that people think "it is only one" but if they saw the extent of the problem they might rethink.

Will the police come knocking at my door (small village, someone will see me... kind of thing..)

It might encourage small girls to pick it up....

If people are going to the effort of spraying them, why not pick them up? If it's a clean environment people will be less likely to let their dogs foul the paths and parks.

I'd go ahead if I were you. It is the most disgusting thing and so unnecessary. I hate the fact that a few owners tar all other responsibly dog owners

I'm doing the spraying and, yuck no way, sorry am I going to pick it up. Poo isnt in the paths its right in the middle of the football areas and people can't tell if its clean or not. Folk are letting their dogs run away, staying on the path, themselves and not seeing (or caring) about the poo on the grass.

Casual users cannot see the extent of the problem - the idea of this was that they would.

I would go one step further and insist dog food manufacturers add luminous paint . This would cut the risk of stepping in it after dark.

For all the effort to spray the damned poo why not get someone to lift it (and put a pile of sand to highlight the area)

No, I think that's a brilliant idea! And if you see which dog dealt it, a little flag made from a cocktail stick and paper detailing the description of the dog would look even better

If you are serious, it depends on the paint that you are using.

If it is poisoness to wildlife, you will be breaking laws. The same goes if it cannot be washed away by rain.

I kid you not, some countries do put flags in the poo.

Lord I get what your saying but surely if someone is coming along lifting the offending poo the offenders are not learning a thing. The idea is to shame people in changing their behaviour so they start to pick it up forever - not have a one off clean of the park.

I think that fluorescent hairspray would not be poisonous, and it washes away

Off to research paint. Was thinking of the stuff they use for setting out on building sites - surely that must comply with all the regs under the sun!

Anythig is worth a try, can't think how it would help ,but I can't why people think OK to not pick up after thier dogs. please let us know if it helps

Trouble is there are always going to be selfish dog owners. The worst offending area where I live (apart from the park) is the roads leading to the school. They must know there are going to be children,running ahead to catch up with friends,and parents with buggies.

Doesn't the parks' maintenence cover this? Or does it just get shredded and scattered when the grass is cut?

I think the flags are a good idea, but again there's the problem with children being drawn to them. At least they'd be visible though.

tbh I'd speak to the local council and see if they intend to do anything about it.

Raffiscool - this is a brilliant idea - if you find some suitable paint let me know. The walk to school is really poo-ey at the moment. And seeing as the government are yet to implement a Dog Poo DNA Database then I think pink paint may help.

Someone did put signs up saying "this is a Primary School not a dog toilet" at the back of our school, seemed to stop them for a while but it's back now.

My dad does clean it up from the pavement / path outside their house, but that doesn't really solve the problem of the lazy owners.

Tough your right I should check with local council but it will take an age. Place is full of net curtain twitters as it is - there will be letters in the local rag moaning etc..

Kinda unrelated but what happens if a guide dog poos. Presumably the owners wouldnt be able to see so what happens there? Is the dog trained to only poo in a certain place?

Yes, guide dogs are trained.
