It is barbarian to "clink" wine glasses

I raise my glass at toasts and find my neighbour on occasion attempting to clash his or her glass against mine.

Ugh, no?

It's a bit naff but after I've had a few glasses, I'll clink away.

I'm so common I'll even clink my ........

I met my 'clinking' friend in the pub today (therefore a very informal drink, particularly as I've already seen her since the New Year).

But she completely 'threw' me this time - I was prepared for the 'clink' with the first drink, but come the second drink each, she insisted on 'clinking' again - her glass against my glass which was resting on the table at the time.
