look at the website on the beach they have some good deals, look at tunisia, warm at this time of year, canaries, spain, malta is cheap and pretty, turkey is ace in good weather but too cold at this time of year

WentworthMillerMad · 31/12/2011 17:40

Tunisia - thanks - never thought of that! On the beach - going on it now!

Tenerife, we went last january and are booking again for a few weeks time. It was lovely and warm.
Also try Fuerteventura, gran canaria or lanzarote.

marriednotdead · 31/12/2011 17:44

Egypt is warm too, and easier on the stomach in my experience Smile

marriednotdead · 31/12/2011 17:45

(than Tunisia)

mosschops30 · 31/12/2011 17:53

I wouldnt touch either of those with children, but thats just me. Have no desire to go to Turkey/tunisia/egypt

WentworthMillerMad · 31/12/2011 17:55

Think am veering to Tenerife or lanzarote - any resorts?

tenerife los christianos, playa del americas is more bars and nightlife beach at christianos is better for kids

squeakytoy · 31/12/2011 17:57

Do you have passports?

Lanzarote is lovely at this time of year. We always stay in Matagorda, which is right next to Puerto Del Carmen (the busiest resort), it is very family friendly, not too expensive and you can walk into PDC in 20 minutes along the road which is lined with restaurants and shops one side, and beach the other.

noonar · 31/12/2011 17:59

look on low cost holidays.com for bargains. i'd stick with canaries.

check weather. dont think tunisia will be hot in jan.

egypt is somewhat unsettled politically, atm. how about north korea? Grin sorry, couldnt resist that!

laluna · 31/12/2011 18:01

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is nice. Bit of a sandy beach, few shops/bars/restaurants but not rowdy.

squeakytoy · 31/12/2011 18:02

If it were me I would book the flight with Monarch, and use HolidayNights or Alpharooms for the accomodation. Works out much cheaper.

If you are hiring a car, I recommend AutoReisen (they are at all Canaries airports) as they use good clean cars, they are cheap, they dont rip you off with a deposit.

squeakytoy · 31/12/2011 18:04

Playa Blanca is ok, but we found that to be too quiet, and expensive compared to PDC.

I would say avoid Costa Teguise.

FredFredGeorge · 31/12/2011 18:06

You can also just call a lot of the small resorts direct once you've found one you like and they often give you very good prices.

LadyBeagleEyes · 31/12/2011 18:09

Another one that says the Canaries.
I went to Tunisia many years ago in November and it was freezing.
Lots of places in Lanzarote for families.

rufusnine · 31/12/2011 18:13

Lanzarote - Playa Blanca - just got back last week - ticked all our boxes x

Not Tunisia - it's not a beach resort at this time of year. Canaries would be a better bet although friends have been to Fuertaventura in Jan and had it wet and cool - not warm enough to swim in the pool.

FreudianSlipper · 31/12/2011 18:28

tunisia is not that warm this time of year. it might be nice during the day but very cold at night but great place to take children in the spring

what about dubai great hotels, good restaurants and a great water park. i think it would be an easy holiday with children and weather will be good

squeakytoy · 31/12/2011 18:29

Canaries weather is very nice at the moment, and the forecast for the next couple of weeks is good.. low to mid 70's.

We stay at a place that has a heated pool, (Costa Sal complex) which means that even if it isnt baking hot, the pool is still comfortable to swim in.

WentworthMillerMad · 01/01/2012 10:21

Thanks everyone - playa blanch
Looks fab

we stayed in an apt at the princessa yaiza hotel in playa blanca. we loved it. dc were 2yo and 4 months old at the time, so we wanted a low key place. plenty of restaurants tho. that was in november a few years back so equally out of season.

permatannedpumpkin · 01/01/2012 19:53

We went to Puerto Mogan in Gran Caneria, has a fab hotel/appt complex with child friendly facilities. Small beach, not too rowdy, only a short bus journey away from major resorts, some fab trips too - check it out on trip advisor/google x
