to think that people who don't put any weight on during the Christmas period are not normal?

I have put on about 3Kg and I feel miserable. Come the New Year and I'll start a diet, like I do every new year. Pathetic I know, but normal, right??

OP posts:
lubeybooby · 31/12/2011 08:56

I haven't put any on

Sounds great but this is because I'm already heavy and have eaten pretty much normally (normal for me = quite a lot) apart from xmas day itself

I don't drink much either, just a bit on xmas eve, xmas day itself and will be drinking tonight

xmyboys · 31/12/2011 08:57

I just put on weight constantly from March 2011.
Pooh to the hard work needed for 2012 Sad

Bunbaker · 31/12/2011 09:02

In my case it is because Christmas has been in our house so I have been in charge of the cooking (and how much food I cook). I always eat more when someone else cooks because for some reason it seems to taste better. Also other people tend to over cater and I would rather finish my plate of food than leave some.

We don't get given loads of chocolates at Christmas any more because we have asked people not to, I don't like Christmas cake and I only buy a small Christmas pudding because a little goes a long way. So this year I haven't over stuffed myself and feel all the better for it.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 31/12/2011 09:06

I've gained weight - prolly about 6lb, I think - but so what? Easy on, easy off - it'll be gone within the first 3 weeks of January, when I'm all bundled in cosy jumpers.

I could have refused the chocs I was given, the cakes I was baked, the cocktails and I was poured and the wine I was passed, but why?!

Mind you, I have walked 3-4 miles most days to keep myself from a heart attack. Shudder to think what state I'd be in if not

Ifancyashandy · 31/12/2011 09:08

Swum 40 lengths every day so managed to stay at usual weight. Lost 4 stone 2 years ago so damned if I'll put it back on!

gamerwidow · 31/12/2011 09:28

I've put weight on too OP. I like xmas and food and I'll freely admit I've stuffed my face over the last month.
It will all come off easily enough in the next couple of months because I'll ban the crap and make sure I exercise every day. It'll be a boring few months getting back to normal but it's worth the work to take full advantage of the festive season :)

molly3478 · 31/12/2011 09:54

I think you can eat sweets, drink alcohol and eat whatever whenever you want as long as you have a very active lifestyle then you will never put on weight.

thenightsky · 31/12/2011 09:57

I've put on so much weight I can no longer bend down to put shoes on with my jeans fastened Sad

I dare not get on the scales.

Proudnscary · 31/12/2011 09:58

I've LOST half a stone

toddlerama · 31/12/2011 10:03

Haven't been weighing myself as I'm 5.5 months pregnant, but I'm sure it's the booze rather than the food that stacks it on most people. No alcohol so I do t feel any more of a bloater than usual. Grin

CMOTDibbler · 31/12/2011 10:04

I haven't put any on, but we've been out walking a lot, my alcohol intake was half a glass of wine, and I try to eat everything in moderation anyway

Zombi · 31/12/2011 10:11

I haven't summoned the balls to weigh myself yet.

Meglet · 31/12/2011 10:11

I've never put on weight at Christmas. Can understand why some people do, I eat the same really.

About the same weight here, I haven't been particularly active as I have had a stinking cold for the last 2 weeks and not been able to run properly. I have eaten more chocolates, crackers and cheese etc, but probably fewer main meals as I have been less hungry at meal times due to snacking. Also two days at the ILs where the food is less than appetising and I don't feel I can walk into the kitchen and grab snacks like at home. My alcohol intake has probably doubled, but that only means I have had 5 or 6 drinks in a week instead of 2 or 3.

lljkk · 31/12/2011 10:27

I am abnormal, probably; I also lose weight when we go on holiday.
I already knew I was abnormal, anyway.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/12/2011 10:28

Having said that I am 2 stone overweight in the first place.

usualsuspect · 31/12/2011 10:29

I dunno if I have or not, I never weigh myself

Haziedoll · 31/12/2011 10:30

I'm really annoyed because I have been losing weight and tracking my calories on Fitnesspal. Wanted to carry on tracking my calories over Christmas to make sure I wasn't a complete pig. I averaged 2100 calories a day which I didn't think was too bad, was expecting a weight gain of a few pound but I have put on more than 6lb! Angry

Haziedoll · 31/12/2011 10:39

Maybe my weight gain was because prior to Christmas I was only on 1200 calories so although 2100 isn't a huge amount its 900 more than normal so my body went into shock!

It was interesting that the official recommended calorie allowance increased recently to 2100. Surely 2100 is too much for the average person, I would struggle to eat that much every day. In order for my weight to be static my calorie intake needs to around 1500-1600.

VillaEphrussi · 31/12/2011 10:41

Yep I've put on a few pounds, although I'd lost a bit more than I needed to in the last year, but it's still not comfortable. I'm trying not to dread the school run, OP, instead, think of it as an end to the cycle and a start to losing it Smile

LaurieFairyCake · 31/12/2011 11:37

I've put on 9 lbs and enjoyed every drink and choccy.

I am however, over it and now craving some nice 'clean' tastes like salad. I am starting a healthy plan tomorrow and my list of new years resolutions include:

  1. Party more
  2. Go out more
  3. Go to more concerts
  4. Get healthier for 40 (gulp!)
  5. Get a health check and sort out that weird lot of ailments you have
  6. Join a class/club for fun
  7. learn something - pottery ? Astronomy classes?

Yesterday I learned how to PROVE (not just understand) Pythagoras theorem - it was fantastic learning something new.

Too many people make harsh new years resolutions - instead we should resolve to suck more of the marrow out of life.

duckdodgers · 31/12/2011 11:42

Another in the put on half a stone club. Xmas Blush

But its only 7lbs at the end of the day, quite easy to lose once you go back to sensible eating - I figure Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without eating what I want when I want for a change.

Cybbo · 31/12/2011 11:44

How can anyone put that much weight on? Are you eating round the clock?
