DD is 4. I asked a good friend to be her godmother and at the time she was full of how honoured she felt to be asked.
DD turned 4 on Christmas Eve and didn't get a card or even a phone call to wish her a happy birthday. I know my friend works full time and had plans for Christmas, but it isn't exactly a difficult birthday to remember. I didn't expect a present or anything and I know that DD has no idea that she forgot, but I think the least she could have done was have a 2min phone conversation or send a card.
I remember everyone's birthday, phone for nieces exam results etc, and am just a bit pissed off that despite being so 'honoured' to be her godmother she can't even remember her birthday.

I wouldn't worry about this. My dds' godparents vary hugely in what they do. The one who doesn't do birthdays is nowtaking dd1 out to theatre each year. They have a relationship that matters, and who knows how it will develop. Dd2 has a godfather who is never going to remember birthdays but recently sent her a beautiful antique book. Think you just have to facilitate a relationship, and then see what happens.
