Every year we go to in-laws - nothing wrong with that but I really want to have time with DH and our 3 DC's away from it all...

What do they want?

Good question - the DC's would be quite happy to go away. DH however, likes his very traditional family get together.

In my defence, we have done that for the last 15 years!!

Think of the expense, the delays because of the snow, the DCs grizzling because they're out of their routine ...

Well we have gone away this year skiing, albeit with family, but it has been a lovely different Christmas and given DH a break from all the cooking and we have really enjoyed it. Still got to enjoy all the run up to Christmas with none of the come down after Boxing Day.

This is why we stay at home for Christmas now - too many plans cancelled owing to bad weather!

I wouldn't mind staying at home either but DH wouldn't hear of it. We have to schlep around taking DC's to PIL's (we have 4 lots - greedy, I know ) which means 4 lots of huge amounts of food, presents and lots of time spent in the car.

I really think somewhere away would be so much nicer for us and surely the PIL's can't be that upset if our plans change for once?

Have them all to you?

We did similar this year and did a cooked meats buffet instead of a roast. Was brilliant.

We went away the year before last and DH proposed. He also had a horrendous chest infection and was very ill, but I think we have decided that we will stay home for a couple years, go away, then visit in laws, t he stay home etc as I find the whole Christmas thing a bit stressful with three groups to see, it's a lot of food to eat!
