To hate incompetent drivers

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 21:50

Those who stop at a roundabout when it's clear, those who indicate on a roundabout and don't turn off, those who drive in in overtaking lanes when not overtaking, those who hit parked cars whilst parking, those who complain they can't see anything when they drive in the dark, yet still do it. Those who pull out in fromt of me so i have to break hard. Don't drive if you are incompetent, you are putting others lives at risk.

please tell me though OP, when you turn left do you pull out to the right at all? almost every other driver seems to do this. check it next time you are driving. it's really annoying.

Get0rf · 28/12/2011 22:41

Some other forums are sure going to pick up on this - women saying bad driving is ok and then bitching about those drivers who actually care about driving ability and safety on the road. - this will take us back a couple of decades [rolls eyes]

So someone on pistonheads or whatever is going to read a piddling thread on mumsnet, and the women's rights movement will be halted in its tracks?

Jesus wept.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:42

"You make a mistake like leaving your indicator on then you follow it through "

I was taught not to believe an indicator until you were sure the car was turning.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:43

yup - don't believe an indicator - a mumsnetter might be driving - jesus wept indeed

Serenitysutton · 28/12/2011 22:45

Pmsl at people all over the places driving into Walls and up grass verges because they have to follow through their indicator

Get0rf · 28/12/2011 22:46

Haha at following through.

So all the old dears who leave their indicators on for about 6 miles down a dual carriageway - presumably as soon as they notice they are to hurtle into the central reservation? Grin

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:46

From the Highway Code Do not assume, when waiting at a junction, that a vehicle coming from the right and signalling left will actually turn. Wait and make sure

Jesus wept, don't you know anything?

chipmunksex · 28/12/2011 22:47

You can hate 'em, but you would do well to expect encounter them.

Drivers are not always familiar with the roads they are driving on.

They maybe distracted by something that you are not aware of, so might drive in a way that you might percieve as erratic.

Good driving is not so much about behaving perfectly yourself, but being aware of other vehicles and obstacles around you and reacting in a timely and proportionate fashion and not getting upset about small errors which are bound to occur.

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:47

I give up... It is annoying though that driving isn't taken more seriously. I lost my 17 year old nephew this time last year to someone who wasn't deck or speeding but who was clueless to road rules. Safe driving everyone.

Drunk not deck...

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:50

well dragon, I now know that some of you are sharing the same roads as me. No wonder jesus is weeping

perceptionreality · 28/12/2011 22:51

It worries me how cross I get when someone does something really stupid, but then I've done stupid things as well, even though I try my best. Everyone is capable of making an error of judgement. What really annoys me is people ignoring priority road signs and arrogantly shoving through, almost causing an accident because you thought they were going to do what they were supposed to.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:52

And I know that there are drivers like you who appear to be ignorant of the highway code.

perceptionreality · 28/12/2011 22:53

If a car is going to turn then you can usually tell because they slow right down...

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:55

don't confuse the ability to google for knowledge Wink

anyone can google - not many, it would seem, understand how to drive carefully

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:56

Precisely. If you are unable to use judgement, relying instead on the actions of other drivers to tell you stuff, then you are equally as bad a driver.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:57

:)

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:57

Clearly you are unable to understand how to drive safely, sixlostmonkeys.

Serenitysutton · 28/12/2011 22:58

I find it quite astonishing that anyone can seriously try to blame someone they've gone in the back of- the whole point of stopping distances is because you can't trust the driver In front of you not to do something unexpected.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:58

eh?

geekette · 28/12/2011 22:59

Tempers, tempers, phew, we do know how to get hot under the collar about stuff.

Anyways,

Made all of those mistakes at least once in my first year after getting my license. after each near miss I never did it again.

Now when I see other people do these I assume they have just learnt to drive, just like I had at the time. I find some racers are fan of these antics... grumble grumble and foreign cars always make my day at roundabouts :D

Depending on the person, I give them either loads of space or no space at all, they always seem to get the message.

If we ask them to get off the road then they will never learn to drive properly! Driving is all about practice and not making the same mistakes again. The racers will eventually hug a tree at some point so I am not too worried about them. They tend to get loads of space so not worried about getting between them and the tree either.

The drivers who really get my goat are those who stick a "baby on board" sign on and think this gives them the right to straddle lanes!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:59

"don't confuse the ability to google for knowledge"

I don't. I was clearly taught how to drive properly and safely. I am also able to check the online highway code for clarification.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:59

the eh is pointed at drag

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 23:00

And...?

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 23:02

you said i clearly don't understand how to drive carefully. That statement simply warrents an 'eh?'

do you have your hands on your hips when you say "And...?"
