To hate incompetent drivers

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 21:50

Those who stop at a roundabout when it's clear, those who indicate on a roundabout and don't turn off, those who drive in in overtaking lanes when not overtaking, those who hit parked cars whilst parking, those who complain they can't see anything when they drive in the dark, yet still do it. Those who pull out in fromt of me so i have to break hard. Don't drive if you are incompetent, you are putting others lives at risk.

An now that is a different post and I would agree there - ESP those without a licence or insurance

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 28/12/2011 22:12

I hate arrogant twattish drivers who think they are better than everyone else.

Ripeberry · 28/12/2011 22:14

There should be a law that people have to take an Advanced Driving test after 5 yrs and every 5yrs thereafter. Keep testing you and if you don't pass then get extra tuition.
A license should not be for life, it should be earnt and tested for all the time.

Serenitysutton · 28/12/2011 22:16

I think there is a good argument to take a dt every 10 years (bet weird fish like most drivers would fail though) it would certainly make being a instructor lucrative.

YuleingFanjo · 28/12/2011 22:16

I get really annoyed by people who don't stop indicating to the right when they are turning off a roundabout, or those who swing wildly to the left or right when preparing to turn.

pigletmania · 28/12/2011 22:17

So your a perfect driver then weirdHmm

Serenitysutton · 28/12/2011 22:20

Course they aren't. My df has been driving 40 years without a single accident -luck. He is a horrendous driver and is blind in one eye which makes roundabouts interesting. He thinks he's a good driver too. Not having accidents means nothing.

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:20

Well, my brother is an instructor and I'm sure he'd tell me of I was making dangerous errors. It's not about who's perfect, it's about who's safe which I why I'm annoyed at such a childish attitude.

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 28/12/2011 22:21

People who don't know how to use roundabouts properly are both stupid and dangerous.

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:22

A test every five years would be a blessing.

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:24

erm. is there some other reason people are having a go at weirdfishes that I'm not aware of? or are posters really disagreeing with her and saying being a bad driver is ok?
Some other forums are sure going to pick up on this - women saying bad driving is ok and then bitching about those drivers who actually care about driving ability and safety on the road. - this will take us back a couple of decades [rolls eyes]

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:24

Its ridiculous that some people are turning this into a 'who's a better driver'. Think about all those who have lost their lives due to incompetent driving and get over yourselves.

YABU;

"Those who stop at a roundabout when it's clear, those who indicate on a roundabout and don't turn off"

You've never been lost? EVER? Wow. And surely if someone stops at a roundabout which is clear and causes an accident (ie you driving up the back of them) this is actually YOUR bad driving causing the accident, not theirs, as - well - you shouldn't have driven up the back of them!

sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:28

but... being lost is no excuse for bad driving. Nothing is ever ever an excuse for bad driving - not even being late for the school run or smudging your lippy in the rearview mirror. If you are lost you pull over safely and take it from there, safely

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:30

If you're lost and you haven't indicated, you dont turn off. If you are indicating you do turn off. It's not about being lost... That is one of the most ridiculous excuses I have ever heard.

OP posts:
Serenitysutton · 28/12/2011 22:30

Because siXlostmonkeys these are not people who are bad drivers, they are people whom the op has witnessed making mistakes. Anyone can get in the wrong lane, momentarily forget to turn off the indicator, find themselves nightime driving when they don't usually. That's life.

Tbh I suggest if you can't accept that people will drive badly around you, legally, without any consequence from the authorities, then you should probbaly take yourself off the road and away from them. They won't go away.

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:31

Jesus, those of you who think its acceptable need to understand what its like to lose someone to a bad driver.

OP posts:
WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:32

How about, if you keep making mistakes, you take yourselves off the road.

OP posts:
WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:34

It's not a fucking game... Will I make a stupid mistake today... It's will I make a stupid mistake and hurt someone...

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:34

serentity - there simply is no excuse for bas driving. You make a mistake like leaving your indicator on then you follow it through - if you don't then you may find that a fire engine smashes into you (this happened to a friend of mine) (she never thought to though to tell them she simply made a mistake and perhaps they should be the ones to take themselves off the road)

WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:35

Frankly, it's disheartening that you seem to think its a hit and miss/ good day or bad day thing. Wake up.

OP posts:
WeirdFishes · 28/12/2011 22:37

No wonder women drivers have such a bad reputation.

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 28/12/2011 22:38

It's scary isn't it weirdfishes? Sadly these will continue to drive and sods law says an innocent will suffer through their 'mistake'

Get0rf · 28/12/2011 22:39

I think someone would benefit from some valium soothing music and a cup of tea.

Chill out you miserable curmudegeon.

Serenitysutton · 28/12/2011 22:41

You're not getting it- I have not made these mistakes, telling me is no good. You can't order every driver to do as you say so what exactly is the point of the thread? Why not do some transport research or lobby for changes to driving standards (already extremely high in the uk) which might actually be useful?

And nice bit of guilt tripping weirdfish, but the thing is it doesn't work. People don't change their behaviour based on the threat of killing or being killed- it's too alien a concept for them to take seriously. That's why drink driving ads have started concentrating on the consequences of drink driving in terms of the shame of being arrested, losing your job etc. People can relate to that, and it's proved far more effective.
