To think I should be able to sell body parts if desperate

Some body parts such as eggs, sperm, blood and plasma can be sold. Other more valuable parts such as liver and kidney cannot. Why one rule for one part and one rule for another? There will always be people who desperately need a transplant but cannot get one. There will always be others who desperately need money and cannot get it. Why should free trade be suspended? As someone desperate for money to fund my education, I would happily sell a kidney (medical student so do know the pros and cons).

I can't believe that as a medical student you would even be thinking this. Why not campaign for better medical care in your country, better financial help to students and better living conditions for the poor. Surely the answer is to stop people being so desperate and impoverished that they would even consider this.

We have just paid another woman USD 10,000 for her eggs so that my DH and I can have a baby. I feel slightly uncomfortable about it, as I would never sell my eggs, in the same position. However, I do not see anything wrong with it and think you should be able to pay for egg donation in the UK.

However, the idea of some poor person in the developing world selling one of their kidneys to someone better off, fills me with rage.

How about campaigning for more affordable higher education, grants for people without much money, that sort of thing. Rather than campaign for the right for people without much money to flog bits of themselves off.

I think the problem is that so manyt people going into the medical profession now, are not doctors, they're just businessmen with medical degrees.

YABVVVU...Because of poverty???? I don't think so. If someone is in need of kidney or some transplant and you are healthy and ready to do so i think that's incredible but to sell because of lack of money????
There are jobs out there, maybe not in your area of expertise but still could bring some income for a time being. No offence to anyone-just my opinion.....

And when it comes to sperm or egg donation for reproduction,i don't see it in negative way. Maybe a bit,but some people really don't have any other option and it's the last thing they can do to make their family full.....Bit different then selling a kidney...
