Christmas by the girls, men lie in bed when ill, women just carry on regardless, Dads are useless and can't/don't buy presents. Blah, blah. Hmm

Typhoo ad with Ben Fogle, men can't cope with DCs and homemaking. FGS! Angry

Haven't seen the typhoo ads but ALL the boots "here come the girls" ads are horrendously sexist and fill me with rage.

winkly I'm so glad its not just me, drives me insane.

When my DH is ill, he generally carries on, not because he is male but thats his nature. I on the other hand am feeble. Grin

adverts based on "men are useless, women are great" are intended to appeal to women consumers.

They might not often be commented on here.

boots ad - definitely sexist. Just not in the usual way => super women discussing their man-flu ridden partners...
I do not think it is normal to think of your partner as a lesser being.
Maybe it is a wakeup call as I do think a few women actually talk this way (and a few men do end up with man flu...).

I haven't seen the typhoo ad.

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 27/12/2011 18:52

Totally agree about the Boots ones.
Those bloody bunged-up women banging on in the street about their list of jobs to get done while their poor husbands lie in bed with colds. The undertone of course being, "ha! Women, you bloody mugs!"
Almost as foul as the couple in bed, when the woman says she has a headache and the man rattles the box of painkillers and gives her a creepy, smug eyebrow wiggle. Foul, foul, foul.

Haven't seen the Typhoo one but I suspect it would fill me with equal rage.

goldbow · 27/12/2011 18:52

Its the assumption that a women will just get on with it, organise every bloody thing that gets my goat. What is great about not taking care of yourself when your ill.

It is highly advisable to rest up when you have a virus, as carrying on as normal can strain the system and cause damage. These ads are misogynistic and nasty.

I boycott Boots because of these ads. Vile people.

goldbow · 27/12/2011 18:57

I am seriously thinking of boycotting Boots too except they have good 2 4 1 s

I don't tend to shop at Boots anyway as we have a Savers in our town which I find sells all that kind of stuff I tend to need. (Plus about four tons of crap I don't, but hey ho!)
As far as sexist ads are concerned, it's one of the few things in life that does make my blood boil. (Yup, grammar all to pot there, sorry!) Special K ads are vile, perfume ads are dire, car adverts shit and Glade air freshener ones absolutely drive me mad!

mrsjay · 27/12/2011 21:58

I have seen bed fogle advert but didnt know it was for tea just saw him being stupid and not being able to look after his baby ! and that stupid advert with the 2 women with the cold but painting bathrooms and doing prsentations before getting up at 5 am to fly off somewhere , while her poor husband has man flu GET A GRIP , Hate it and yes its sexist and the tea one is just daft and patronising to men ,
