to use my neighbours fridge as mine is too full?

Neighbours are away in Oz until January 10th.

We have their keys to feed their tropical fish.

I have just had a massive bake-a-thon making bits and pieces for tomorrow, and I can't fit most of it back in my fridge. Is it unreasonable to put my food in their fridge overnight? Or do I need to ring them in Australia to check it is ok (which is probably middle of night right now!)?

If you have the key - then you must have a good relationship - so use it - but tell them and thank them. I know my neighbours would be ok with it (but my neighbours are wonderful and do my washing when the machine goes up the swanny and store my frozen stuff when the freezer broke down). Last think they'd want is your christmas ruined.

I'm sure it'll be fine. I have an arrangement with my neighbour, we feed the cat and use the oven and fridge on Christmas day.

It's Christmas day there anyway, if you ring/text they'll panic and think their fish have died or something.

I would think so if they left it on although it would be a bit cheeky if they have emptied the fridge and turned it off while they are away.

I'll send them an email as I don't want to call and interrupt their Christmas eve/day with their family plus it will cost the Earth.

They both have iPhones so will probably email back when they wake up.

I normally buy them some milk, bread, and a few essentials for when they return so they can at least have some tea and toast. I'll make sure I buy nice bread and leave a thank you note.

Wouldn't bother me either, same with oven, extra dining room chairs etc etc. Of course if there was a bottle of wine small thank you waiting on my return then so much the better

If they trust you enough to feed fish then they would surely be happy for you to use their fridge.

And if they were churlish enough to mind then you shouldn't be kind enough to feed their fish

Oh and their fridge is on, nowt in it though apart from my goodies

Its a fridge-freezer though and the freezer part is full of food so maybe that's why they left it on. Obviously I would turn it on if they had defrosted it all and turned it off!

But yes I think it is true that a fride uses less energy when if is full of food as the air cools the food, and the food cools the air etc

Wouldn't bother me, my neighbour's guest will be using my drive & I've told her to help herself to the excess milk in the fridge, as I forgot to cancel it

At this time of year we use our 'outside fridge' - which is the step outside the back door Currently piled high with beer, white wine, champagne, orange juice & various flavours of pop. It does get a bit wet in the rain but is always very well chilled. Leaves the real fridge for all the food.

It wouldn't bother me if a neighbour used my fridge while I was away especially if they were already doing me a favour. Bit silly if they want to get precious over a fridge.

unless you leave it filthy, I can't see why they would mind at all

I'm in a similar position (watching a neighbours house/ plants) except it is my washing machine that has broken.

I've used theirs (but I did text to ask it it was OK).

In response they messaged me asking me to set up their sky+ to record some stuff.

I use my neighbours washing lines when there away (about 3 different neighbours) and their bins

Maybe this is a difference in area, but that lot wouldn't last five minutes around here without getting stolen. Literally. DH and I made the mistake of leaving a shopping bag of food in the boot of our car the year we moved into our house (nothing special - a couple of loaves of bread, a bag of apples, I think it had some chocolate in it) and whilst we were carrying the rest of our FIRST SHOP from the car to the house (along a 10 foot driveway into the kichen) some fucker had stolen the remaining bag.
