Seen posters correcting grammar on here, do they do so in RL situations?

Yep and I bet it's annoying then.

MamaMaiasaura · 23/12/2011 13:53

Sorry pressed send too soon.

AIBU to think its quite rude to do so and that there are bigger issues than the absolute correct grammar?

( bet this has been done before, but hey ho Grin )

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 23/12/2011 13:54

I do it, but only with people I love very much :)

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 23/12/2011 13:54

You've missed an apostrophe.

MrsPlesWearsAFez · 23/12/2011 13:54

I don't often correct people on here, but I do in "real" life.

CumpyGruntWithJinglyBellsOn · 23/12/2011 13:55

Yes, always.

MissPentChristmasBudget · 23/12/2011 13:57

Of course there are bigger issues. So what? If we were only allowed to discuss big issues then AIBU would be all about World Peace rather than about mad SILs, Christmas cards, P&C parking etc.

iklboonkey · 23/12/2011 13:59

Yes, it's my job. But I do let an awful lot slide if I like you Grin.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 23/12/2011 14:00

Posters'

Happy Christmas, no need to thank me.

DeePanCrisPandEeeven · 23/12/2011 14:00

I switch to a red font for just this purpose in RL.

and carry a red pen at all times, for correctional purposes.

< I don't really, but the frustration can be tearful at times..>

Kayano · 23/12/2011 14:01

Prose Grin

What does it even matter? Some people see it as helpful, some annoying, some couldn't give a crap and certainly not start (another) thread about it

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/12/2011 14:02

yes, in a VERY LOUD VOICE

MamaMaiasaura · 23/12/2011 14:02

Wink thanks for apostrophes.

OP posts:
EuphemiaInExcelsis · 23/12/2011 14:03

I do in the classroom, but not with idiot FB friends who are also teachers as they're beyond help and shooting's too good for them.

Xmas Smile
MamaMaiasaura · 23/12/2011 14:03

Ah but kayano, you posted on a (another) thread about it Wink

OP posts:
Trills · 23/12/2011 14:04

YANBU to think there are bigger issues.

Personally I think that anyone who writes "should of" or "could of" should want to learn to write correctly. There is a chance that being corrected now will save them some embarrassment in future.

Anyway, I'm a cow so I don't mind being thought rude.

If 1,000 people think I am rude and continue to write wrongly, but 1 person takes the message on board, starts to write "should have" and "could have" and then gets a job based on this (not entirely based on this, but in a situation where their application would have been rejected if they had claimed that they had excellent written English but wrote "could of") then I will be happy.

Kayano · 23/12/2011 14:04

I did, but I didn't actually correct anyone on the other thread. I correct my BIL in real life though just to annoy him.

OldGreyWassailTest · 23/12/2011 14:05

But you see, OP, if all the posters who were being corrected looked on it as a learning curve and took on board those corrections, then eventually there were be no need for corrections ever again. Problem solved. But they don't.

BarfTheHeraldAngelsHeave · 23/12/2011 14:08

Yes, but I am annoying in so many ways that its just a drop in the ocean where my friends are concerned. Xmas Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 23/12/2011 14:10

Yes you did, kayano, by implication. You made a dig on a thread, raining on somebody else's nice post... what for? Do you 'get' something out if it? Did it make you feel good?

I can't understand how people can get so bent out of shape about others' use of grammar and punctuation? It's not your business or anybody elses. MNHQ agree actually, they made a 'special' board for such like-minded people to post on without enraging anybody else. Why aren't you all there?

Trills.... your post is beyond pompous. Wow.

If people don't ask you for correction - then don't. It's not a dificult concept really, not for people with a brain and a degree of grace.

Rudolfsgottarednose · 23/12/2011 14:12

To those that correct people in RL, do you allow for regional accects/speech ? and in what situations, for example if someone knocked on your front door covered in blood stating "i've bin knifed", would you correct them?

I don't understand why you would want to block the flow of communication by making someone feel uncomfortable.

pipoca · 23/12/2011 14:14

seeing that missing apostrophe is making me itch! I see it's already been pointed out though Xmas Smile

Rudolfsgottarednose · 23/12/2011 14:15

Tbh it shows a huge lack of inteligence/thinking/problem solving if you cannot interprit what the other person means without it having it be in exact grammer, the same applies to written communication.

knitknack · 23/12/2011 14:15

I'm a teacher - I've perfected a half hour rant on "could OF" or "should OF" - it involves two different white board pens, and a dance... I'm thinking of adding sequins
