I'm a grown up. Why has it been decided i shouldn't be able to watch the brilliant Tim Minchin on Jonathan Ross? Surely Christians can cope with an alternative view? There was nothing offensive in the song Hmm

magic woody Allen Jesus

Yabu to think you have a right, it is their show, and they have the right to edit it.

Whether they were right to do so, that is another question.

NormanTebbit · 23/12/2011 08:54

Do you think they were right to take it out? I don't. He was asked to write a song for the show. It was not offensive. The producers were happy. But some big cheese has decided it is not fit for my ears.

I was also gutted it was removed, tis a most excellent song!

cwtch4967 · 23/12/2011 08:58

I'm a Christian - I have a sense of humor, I like a good debate and accept people have different views BUT having watched the song I think it was right to cut it from the show. I found it offensive to hear the miracles of Jesus compared to the the tricks of Darren Brown. Putting this out during one of the major Christian festivals would have caused a lot of offense and controversy.

Trills · 23/12/2011 09:00

I don't think you have a right to hear any song, that's a ridiculous thing to say. YABU

I want to hear it too though, I love Tim Minchin. I don't get Woody Allen at all though so I probably own't get the jokes.

Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:04

I love Tim. Love him, love him, love him.

But I thought the song was a bit crap. Not funny, just really pointed. The only funny bit is the long haired beard I am Jesus bit.
Disappointing really. It's like he thought 'christmas song, I could do an anti religion thing, really contravertial...' but he forgot the funny.

FriggFRIGGYPudding · 23/12/2011 09:05

Nah,I don't get woody Allen either, you'll still get the song,it's frigging genius.

NormanTebbit · 23/12/2011 09:06

I rather liked the comparison between Jesus as Woody Allen - small, Jewish, a bit political.

And Mary 'who never had sex with a dude, that would be too rude.'

Ooh,really pag?
"Magic woody Allen Zombie Komodo dragon Jesus"
Not funny?!?

trulyscrumptious43 · 23/12/2011 09:08

Watch it on youtube instead - it will get a much bigger audience because of all this kefuffle. Gone viral, etc, etc
And no you don't have the right to watch anything in particular.

FriggFRIGGYPudding · 23/12/2011 09:09

Commonly known as parthonogenis (sp)

cwtch4967 · 23/12/2011 09:09

Not funny.

Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:10

Perhaps it's too early for me. I have all his DVDs and he is a god but I just listened thinking it was clever but not really laughing. I usually roar at him.

I will watch again later.
But they shouldn't have cut him. It's a grown up show.

buggyRunner · 23/12/2011 09:11

I'm Christian, regular at church and found the song funny. I wouldn't have an issue with it being broadcast- IMHO I don't think the bug guy would either Grin

NormanTebbit · 23/12/2011 09:13

All these people who liked the song but it's deemed too offensive for transmission... Why?

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:17

All which people Norman?

I don't think anyone has said it was too offensive to broadcast. Not on here.

NormanTebbit · 23/12/2011 09:18

In terms of rights - well it's not my TV station I guess , so I don't get to choose what is broadcast.

But shouldn't my his right to express himself and my right to hear him be balanced against the Daily Mail's a Christian's right not to be offended?

OP posts:
ScarlettCrossbones · 23/12/2011 09:20

Why shouldn't we offend Christians?

NormanTebbit · 23/12/2011 09:20

Sorry 'people on mumsnet'- ITV deemed it too offensive. it's not exactly Frankie Boyle territory.

FriggFRIGGYPudding · 23/12/2011 09:23

Try again later.Grin

CogitoErgoSometimes · 23/12/2011 09:26

YABU. Ross was famously fired for insulting a live institution... Andrew Sachs. Don't think he wants to risk a repeat performance for insulting a dead one.

Pagwatch · 23/12/2011 09:26
Grin

Thank you. I will.

cwtch4967 · 23/12/2011 09:29

Scarlett

Why shouldn't we offend Christians? You can offend me all you like but I for one am glad that ITV has decided that they don't want to offend Christians during one of the major Christian festivals.

NormanTebbit · 23/12/2011 09:33

It's also a pagan festival. And a capitalist one.

OP posts:
snowmaiden · 23/12/2011 09:34

I love it- only offensive if you have had a sense of humor bypass.
