AIBU to think this woman didn't need to embarass me today?

DD's at church's Christmas party this afternoon. Keeping an eye on DD2 (2yrs) while they're having their party food. Noticed her nose was running and asked for napkin from nearby kitchen. Was given rough paper tissue for hand drying. Quick dab of nose. DD knocked her drink over next to her plate. I still had the paper tissue in my hand so put it straight on top. Woman stood near kitchen quite loudly exclaimed "did she just use that towel that she'd used on her child's nose"? I felt v embarassed. Went to get more towel and she tackled me about it asking me the same question to which I replied "yes I did". Her and the woman behind the kitchen gave me a look that would kill and I skulked off back to my DD. Okay I know it wasn't very hygienic but it was just a instant response to the spillage and it wasn't like there was loads of snot on it and I'd then rubbed it all over some other child's plate!
AIBU to think that she didn't need to shout about it like this in front of everyone?

blackeyedsanta · 18/12/2011 22:20

there are strange, unkind people everywhere. most people will think she was the idiot, not you.

BlissfulMistletoe · 18/12/2011 22:22

I Would understand an Ott reaction if these was china or reusable plates, but I guess these was paper plates than you tend to throw away

festi · 18/12/2011 22:23

YANBU

festi · 18/12/2011 22:24

you should have told her she was more than welcome to come scrub the table with some antibac spary, I bet she would'nt have found it that important anymore.

GreenIceAndChristmasHam · 18/12/2011 22:25

Pity her.

Her desire to feel superior may be all she has to get up for in a morning.

(but tut@you for not having a tissue to hand)

^that was irony btw before anyone shoots me Grin

Thanks guys. I know I shouldn't have let it bother me but it was the way I was spoke to - like some kind of idiot mother who obviously doesn't know wrong from right.

microserf · 18/12/2011 22:30

what a complete cow. reflects on her, not you. sounds the sort who love to cause a bit of bother and be superior, don't give her the satisfaction.

SebastionTheCrab · 18/12/2011 22:31

YANBU.
I'm the Queen of getting the most use out of a single wipe/ tissue/ teatowel etc etc. And I do it on purpose too.

blueskycp · 18/12/2011 22:33

Thanks again everyone. Feel much better as I've beating myself up about it since it happened. I hesitated to post about it as I actually thought people would have agreed with her and told me how disgusting I was. I should have known better than that! Blush

It is common sense to use what is to hand. The woman sounds ridiculous.

AsinineLadiesDancing · 18/12/2011 22:35

Seeing as it was a church function, you could have pointed out that Jesus was not fussy about germs, he used to hang out with lepers, prostitutes and people with all sorts of illnesses.

Grin
WorraLiberty · 18/12/2011 22:37

To be fair, I'm not sure Jesus was actually at the party Asinine Grin

scarletforya · 18/12/2011 22:38

What a nasty cow. You should have rubbed it all over her condascending face!

blueskycp · 18/12/2011 22:39

Asinine - I wish I had the gumption to come up with something like that!

skybluepearl · 18/12/2011 22:41

MrsPennySworth · 18/12/2011 22:44

Yanbu, she was being unnecessarily mean and not very christmassy.

AnotherMincepie · 18/12/2011 22:57

I'd have thought it unpleasant TBH - but wouldn't have said anything.
