Everyone looks at their iPod and feel proud that they have a bit of classical, bit of country, bit of metal, bit of folk, bit of indie .... SNORE

I, however, definitely DO have eclectic taste in music.

I listen to Coldplay AND to U2.
I listen to Duran Duran AND to Spandau Ballet.
I listen to Robbie Williams AND to George Michael.
I listen to Madonna AND to Lady GaGa.

Not only that, but I've got a Best of Johnny Cash and also an Eminem album.

None of you have my range.

Anyone willing to admit they DON'T have eclectic tastes in music?

i have narrow musical tastes. I do listen to jazz, country, rock and pop but usually only if it is also psychedelic.

I find it hard to make sense of people who just like music in general without having particular preferences. There is usually some underlying theme going on, even if it just something like all their choices being autumnal.

Poor misunderstood BB Xmas Sad

Everything from Abba to Lady GaGa. From Queen to Black Eyed Peas plus some music from Hans Zimmer, Ennio morricone & Two Steps from Hell. Oh, and soundtracks from Phantom, Chess, & Les Miserables.

I win Grin

joanofarchitrave · 18/12/2011 21:02

LOL I agree OP.

I remember hearing John Hurt on Jonathan Ross's old radio show. 'Oh I like all sorts of music... Handel, Schubert.... anything really... Mozart...'

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 18/12/2011 21:04

I have very non-eclectic taste in music.

LastFM grasses you up totally, my hipster DSis looked at my 'recently played' list on there and commented, 'Wow, your musical taste really runs the gamut from pop-punk to emo Xmas Hmm'

I have to say that liking Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet, well that is like putting Pepsi and Coke in the same glass! It's just not done!

I don't have eclectic taste in music, in fact I have been told my my DH that I have no taste whatsoever for music, and that I most resemble a tone deaf cat when it comes to music.

claig · 18/12/2011 21:26

I like eclectic guitar music rather than acoustic

TheSmallClanger · 18/12/2011 21:31

I am just a music snob. I don't care.

My last listening session involved Nine Inch Nails, Lykke Li, Arvo Part and Battles. DD hates it when I put music on in the car.

rabbid · 18/12/2011 21:32

someone claiming to be a music snob liking nine inch nails

antsypants · 18/12/2011 21:33

I have very specific taste in music , and it is indie from 1994-1998

My tastes are more discerning than your average eclectic.

claig · 18/12/2011 21:34

pigletmania, respect for Smiley Lewis. Love Big Mamou.
I am sure you like Fats Domino too.

rabbid · 18/12/2011 21:36

sorry clanger that was mean of me

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 18/12/2011 21:38

ToxieMoxie "I have been told my my DH that I have no taste whatsoever for music, and that I most resemble a tone deaf cat when it comes to music."

Yeah, but everyone says things like that to their DP, right? DH is only allowed to listen to Bob Dylan when I'm out of the country house. Seriously, cats being strangled are more tuneful....

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2011 21:41

Xmas Grin @ SmallClanger

I have a friend like you Wink
(she's ace, but bloody hell she has a varied taste in music..)

TheSmallClanger · 18/12/2011 21:46

Snigger away, rabbid. Your barbs cannot hurt me. i've been practising this a long time.

CornflowerB · 18/12/2011 21:46

I don't know about eclectic but if one more person tells me that they used to be a Goth to prove how 'different' they are I will scream

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2011 21:47

I'm MAD me
How can you like Spandau Ballet and not Duran Duran (or vice versa)? I get them mixed up all the time - in my mind they're pretty interchangeable (and I do like them)

StealthPolarBear · 18/12/2011 21:48

Has anyone started a new job and been told "You don't have to be crazy to work here but it helps hur hur" like that's the first time you'll have come across that particular joke

claig · 18/12/2011 21:55

I've said it many a time

Get0rf · 18/12/2011 21:58

I don't have eclectic taste, actually I don't think I have any music taste at all.

I like the Smiths, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17, Beethoven and any chart crap which is played on radio 1 at the time.

Music is actually not that important to me, really.

tarantula · 18/12/2011 22:08

I have eclectic taste in music. I like ALL of Chumbawumba's albums. Grin

Chynah · 18/12/2011 22:10

I like (and I've probable missed categories here)

trance
dance
punk
goth
alternative rock
new metal
rap
classical
opera arias
new romantics (yes Duran Duran & Spandau Ballet)
jazz

depends what mood/what I'm doing at the time. Really really can't stand watching musicals though

Fo0ffysFestiveShmooffery · 18/12/2011 22:14

Some say eclectic.
I say mixed up shit.

ToxicMoxie · 18/12/2011 22:40

Boulevard, I'm with you on the Dylan. I get the lyrics are also crap deep and political and all that, but really, I saw him in concert, and just could not understand anything. Not like, gee, that's too deep for my tone deaf cat-sized brain, but like - are the actual words "ruh-ruh-ruh, ruh"?

I felt like I was listening to one of the teachers from the Peanuts sing. Surreal.
