DH got a DVD out and we sat down to watch it, it had uncomfortable holocaust scenes in it, not quite Schindlers list but enough that I left the room, he says I'm being an idiot as it is only rated 12, aibu?

No you are not, i cant watch any films with cruelty to animals or tortue or fighting in them, i cant even watch fishing programmes because to me its like animal cruelty.

Meglet · 17/12/2011 20:10

yanbu. I can't watch anything nasty like that.

I'm ok with the news though.

IneedAChristmasNickname · 17/12/2011 20:11

Thanks, never would have guessed that in a million years!

I still say YANBU.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 17/12/2011 20:14

It's a bit tasteless, I suppose, but it isnt exactly historical- it's based on old comics which used the cliché of Nazi baddies, much like Indiana Jones etc do. So yes, you are being a bit of a wuss, but at the same time, you are entitled to not watch something you don't enjoy.

happydotcom · 17/12/2011 20:15

I can't watch anything like that either. YANBU.

crypes · 17/12/2011 20:16

yea thats strange i must admit i can watch the news ok.

GoingForGoalWeight · 17/12/2011 20:18

YANBU - but HE IS! Name calling is not on.

Besom · 17/12/2011 20:19

Yanbu. I'm the same and I never used to be. But so is my dh actually, since we've become parents.

iwantbrie · 17/12/2011 20:42

YANBU if you don't want to watch it don't! He didn't have to get all childish with the name calling so he is BU.
For the record, I can't watch the last 5 minutes of the last episode of Blackadder goes Forth, certain parts of Schindlers List and I will never watch The Boy in the striped pyjamas ever again because it made me wail like a baby.

SausageWrappedInBaconSmuggler · 17/12/2011 20:45

YANBU - doesn't matter what the film is, if it makes you uncomfortable you don't have to watch it. Was rather mean of your DH to say that though it's not like you demanded he switch it off.

molepomandmistletoe · 17/12/2011 21:20

YANBU

I only got halfway though Shindlers List and couldnt watch anymore - it haunts me.

Anything to do with The Holocaust I cant bear to watch, I dont even want to know anything about it, it's too awful.

Everyone raves about The Boy In Striped Pjamas but I know it's something I could never watch.

molepomandmistletoe · 17/12/2011 21:21

*Pyjamas

Pendeen · 17/12/2011 23:53

YANBU.

Everyone has their own particular fears. What makes one person uncomfortable isn't the same as another.

BTW do you have any particular reason to feel the way you do? If so, is DH aware of this?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2011 00:04

I give you "Sophies Choice"

< runs screaming from thread >

OP, YANBU

VivaLeBeaver · 18/12/2011 00:39

No. I'm the same. Couldn't watch some Italian film, think it was A Beautiful Life or similar as I was so upset by it.
